Wii U hardware sales jump 685% in UK thanks to Wind Waker HD release
The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD’s release has sparked a 685% leap in Wii U hardware sales across the UK, according to a fresh report.

In a statement sent to MCV, Nintendo UK’s head of consumer marketing James Honeywell said of the figure, “We have long believed that software sells hardware and it’s great to see that reaffirmed this week with an uplift of Wii U hardware sales to coincide with the launch of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD.”
It’s still unclear what a 685% jump in hardware sales actually equates to in units sold.
Still, did you pick up a console to play Wind Waker HD? Let us know below.

Without an actual number, this information is relatively useless.
Still, can’t complain about more sales.

More sales is better than no sales

@3 Agreed. It’s chest beating until we get the fine details.

Francis: I told you Dumb Ass’s!
Dragon: Are you going to run away again?
LBoss: Gets popcorn

Well, 685% of 1 is less than 7…
Hard numbers, please, not marketing agency’s numbers.

@3 Wii U hardware sales last week were under 5k, this week they went up to 45k according to Media Create.

Well shows you people that want Nintendo products only want the 1st party games… (the majority of people)

I like the Mortal Kombat part.
Also, Wind Waker is a great game so, this is good news.

Media Create numbers are for Japan aren’t they? The last lot of those was 4k down from 6k the previous week. Zelda had already been out two weeks. Where are you getting 45k from? The current week runs to 13/10 so they wouldn’t be available yet.

Both of you: http://www.reactiongifs.us/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/picard_clapping.gif But you two hope Francis says something to get my attention.
@11
Yeah.
Comment: I’m happy it got a spike (Well without numbers its hard to tell what sort of spike we are seeing). Contrary to what the person that shall not be named thinks, i have absolutely no problems towards Nintendo having success with their products. I have criticisms but no problems with them succeeding or failing.

@10 Media Create?
Isn’t that the Japanese software charts?
Legendaryboss
@16
Yeah, most likely basing his/her comment on Japanese sales.

I didn’t think it caused any spike in Japan?

Well 85 more units sold during that week, went further off the deep end.

The PC (with only some notable exceptions) has every game that the 360, Xbone, PS3/4 has or ever will have.
Therefor, I am going to buy a Wii U with my next pay cheque. There’s no point in spending money on a device that plays the same games at a lower quality. Unless Mario, and Zelda games decide to pop into my C:\ drive… there’s no point.
Besides, Nintendo’s peripherals (ie. motion control, 3D and touch screens) make it virtually impossible to properly emulate those experiences on any other device.
Dragon
Someone called me ?
I have to say something though-
Francis Fatality!
On topic, as many have said, 673% of what?
Also a trick that marketeers use, 6.73 times more or 673%. Which sounds a bigger number?
Hint – They are the same.
@10,
Uh? Wii U sold 4k units in Japan this week.
Pytox
@20 there is a pc wii emulator Dolphin i believe and it might work for wiiu too but not sure about that :p

Good for the Wii-u, but I want to see numbers please. Still any sales is awesome!

@20. i think this makes a lot of sense. a friend of mine has been a pc only gamer for decades and recently bought a 3ds and wiiu and he loves it. these machines really fill the gap. they offer some gaming experiences you just can’t get on the other platforms.

You will return, they always do

Why are the numbers so important? Even if they went from 100 units a week to 685 units a week… that’s still an increase.
This is good news no matter how you want to look at it. Can’t wait to see what Super Mario 3D World does for system sales!
pukem0n
up from 100 to 685, congratulations.
ChunkyLover112
Amazing how one game can do this.
Clupula
@27 – Yup, they might go to a whole 1,000 sales.
