Resident Evil 7 appears on designer’s resumé – report

Resident Evil 7 is no secret, seeing as Capcom has promised to use the game to return to the series’ roots, but it has just appeared on a designer’s resumé. Finish your Jill sandwich then read on.

Gematsu reports – via NeoGAF – that Los Angeles-based costume designer Karen Brakenridge has listed Resident Evil 7 on her LinkedIn profile.

Would you like to see Resident Evil 7 capture those glory days? I wrote a blog about the death of survival horror on consoles here, not long after The Evil Within was announced. Since then games like Outlast, Daylight, Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs and Routine – to name a few – have restored this critic’s faith in the genre.

What about you?

    I don’t care anymore.
    Resident Evil 5 was mediocre
Resident Evil 6 was a complete trsh, disaster and so on and on.
    Franchise is dead to me.

We have Evil Within and it’s going to be AWESOME.

I think I heard this before… returning to roots. RE4 was pretty bad, but to compare to 5 and 6… it was good :D

Yeah. 4 was Okay but it was way better than 5 and 6. At least it had some original ideas + decent horror element to it.

    I enjoyed 5.

6 was a mess, sadly. Co-op was tolerable though.

Will only care about RE7 if it stars Jill and/or Claire, otherwise I’ll be skipping it completely. Their insulting exclusion from RE6 needs to be made up for.

Res 4 was a classic. I enjoyed RE5. The merceneries modes are the best in all of the games which tells you something there. I wish they’d reboot back to Dead Space like controls and just call it Resident Evil.

    Resident Evil 6 was sick!
so many animations, same number of animation melees as Last of Us.
yet people praised Last of Us and bashed RE6:/

    can’t satisfy all.

if RE7 goes back to classic style, i won’t be happy, BUt if it feels like Zero or RE1 remake then i’m cool>:/

Resident Evil 6 story was abysmal to say the least and the fact that Capcom had to employ over 600 people to make that game is shocking when Naughty Dog used a fraction of that number.

    “so many animations”

Yeah. So many crappy animations from Resident Evil 4. Oh lord.

Those animations weren’t from RE4. They employed like 4 mocap studios to make all those animations.

Resident Evil 6 was a great game for fun, no science to be made here. As for Resident Evil 7 I would love to see a complete, fully polished game with intriguing plot, survival horror elements, classic appeal and tons of unlockables, replay value. And PLEASE not 3 stories, just one or two at the most.

I can understand people hating both 5 and 6, but to somehow say that 5 was a better game than 6 is completely incomprehensible.

5 was a third person shooter from start to finish without a single attempt at a scare. At least 6 had Leon’s campaign.

Both RE 5 and 6 are great games. On Xbox. Survival horror is dead. Nobody plays that shit anymore. That why publishers aren’t making them. If Capcom goes back to the “roots” of the series with RE 7, they’ll die!

@18: Which surely explains why the Amnesia games have done so well, and why Revelations was more highly acclaimed by critics and consumers alike (its sales were lower than RE6, but because of a mix of not being hyped out the ass and originally being on 3DS and only getting ported to consoles a year later). Oh, and let’s not forget Outlast.

The fact of the matter is that survival horror is awesome, and only “dead” because AAA publishers are so obsessed with making as much money as possible that they’ll jump on any bandwagon and sink to whatever Hollywood-inspired lows they think it’ll take to sell more product. If a survival horror game came out with Call of Duty level sales, we’d see most FPS and action games suddenly try to be more like survival horror games, and people claiming FPS and action games are dead because interest in survival horror “proved” FPS and action games sucked.

Remember, this is an industry that a decade ago had tons of strong, powerful female protagonists leading franchises, some of which (Resident Evil included) are still alive today because of that interest. Yet today, female protagonists are either not allowed in video games, or they’re treated very poorly, either as sex objects or whimpering children in adult bodies. These companies claim this treatment of women, either as non-existent or as insulting parodies, comes from nobody wanting female characters in games. Yet women were the sex of choice for many of the most popular franchises a decade ago.
