Vlambeer’s Nuclear Throne is now available through Steam’s Early Access. The randomly-generated arcade action title was once known as Wasteland Kings, but the developer changed the name through an amicable agreement with Wasteland 2 developer inXile. Early Access will run you $13 and and at present, the alpha build includes seven characters, four worlds, a couple boss battles, and all sorts of weapons and the like. At least four more worlds and an undefined number of secret worlds to explore, both on Earth, other planets and other dimensions will be made available at launch along with additional characters, B-skins, sound effects, “Dangerous Crown Vaults to raid for game-changing Crown Modifiers,” and more. Hit up the link for the rest.

    Oh, yay!!!

It’s a good week for Steam. The Wolf Among Us, Glare, and now this. Also, for those who haven’t played it, I strongly recommend Glare, it’s a stunning game.

Aesthetically it’s somewhere between Uru: Ages Beyond Myst, Darkspore, and Trine 2. So it was basically hammering the happy button in my head when I was playing it. And it feels like a real departure from more violent games, since your character’s only weapons are light, and it feels like you’re fighting a cancer rather than anything else.

What I’ve played of it has both been a refreshingly unique experience, and a weird callback to games like Turrican on the old home computers — at least, that’s what my muscle memory makes of it. I’m almost tempted to hook up my USB Competition Pro to have some microswitch fun with it. I’m not sure how well that’d work with some of the bits where you need to be more precise, though.

    Still, a great game.

Hopping over to Steam to pick up this one, too.

This has been a great week for Steam.
