Battlefield 4′s launch multiplayer component has been outlined by DICE, detailing seven different modes.

Here are the seven modes available at launch, as detailed on the Battlefield Blog:

    Commander mode: No

  • Defuse (series debut)
Combat type: Competitive close quarters combat

Combat type: The classic shooter mode, Battlefield 4 style
Designed for: 20 players (all platforms)

Combat type: Four squads fight on the ground with limited vehicle support in a race to the top of the leaderboard

The map names were leaked ahead of reveal, and the post had nothing to say on the details there beyond confirming there are ten of them, unfortunately.

Battlefield 4 is coming on October 29.

Thanks, Polygon.

I said it before and I’ll say it again. If a squad has 5 people why the maximum number of players is not divisible by 10? It’s just stupid…

@1, not everyone will be in a squad and they won’t always be full, so it really doesn’t matter.

Ehm, why does DTM only have 20 players on PC too? On BF3 you could play with 64 players.

    Me confused… :/

@2: Not joining a squad in Battlefield? You’re Doing It Wrong™

It’s not a matter of whether you want to join a squad or not. Joining in the middle of the match you might be left out in a squad of 2 (64 player mode). That’s a real shame.

@6: It’s better that way. DM, CTF, and Rush (on most maps) with 64 players doesn’t really shine in Battlefield 3. I rarely play them with more than 32, 32, and 48 players respectively.

@8 Whilst i totally agree with you :)

I will say that it say.. and this is towards everyone… it says.

    “Designed for”

So it designed for this amount of players.. But i’m guessing you’ll be able to go above that amount when it comes to custom servers.. So if 64 player TDM is your thing… I’m pretty sure someone will set up a server with that amount :)

But hopefully something has been set in place.. So that custom servers wont have silly rules anymore.. Like no shotgun’s.

@up: True, true. Plus, I hope for a ticket filter in server browser…

In contradiction, I only join 64 player maps because I feel the more the merrier and I like shooting at pocket of players or being intense looking around constantly and on map while 32 and under players maps are just too tiny, sounds like a sand box, no room to move anywhere.

I am deceived by a large margin with those total player maps and don’t want to pay for it until Dice tell us those maps can be played on MS, Sony, and PC with larger amount of players per map.

Furthermore, I was hoping for the sherry on the cake with 128 players map(s)

64 would be a good idea if people knew what they were supposed to do, which is almost always a problem. Playing 500% tickets when half of your team acts stupid and you end up slaughtered on spawn is no fun. Autobalance sucks even if it’s turned on.
