Warcraft movie may star Colin Farrell, Paula Patton – rumour

Monday, 23rd September 2013 01:28 GMT By Brenna Hillier

Hollywood whispers suggest Legendary is chasing Colin Farrell and Paula Patton to play leading roles in the Warcraft movie adaptation.

The rumour comes via Deadline, which reports Patton is in negotiations over the role, but that Farrell’s casting is still chancy.

Farrell has appeared in a wide variety of films including Total Recall and Seven Psychopaths, while Patton is probably best known for Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, but was also in Déjà Vu and Mirrors.

The Warcraft film project took a long time to get off the ground because Blizzard is very protective of the property. Sam Raimi was on board, but eventually left to make Oz, later saying he got sick of Blizzard’s “mismanagement”. Moon director Duncan Jones is now in the director’s seat, a dream project of his, and things seem to be accelerating as a result. The movie is in pre-production at Legendary Pictures and may begin filming as early as January ahead of a 2015 release. A teaser was shown at Comic Con.

Not sure why it needs to be live action at all. Their CGI stuff is the best.. just do that.

@2 You mean he actually does acting in that one? I gotta see that!

@5 I have all the faith in the world in Duncan Jones, but you really need good actors too. Colin Farrell is a brand of mediocrity.

The bigger thing here is the timing. This has “been happening” for so long now.

Back during WotLK, this would have been a Blockbuster. EVERYONE played World of Wacraft. But after Cataclysm, and the Pandas, what kind of return are they looking at here?

How many people will actually bother to see it outside of the hardcore fans? It’ll have to be better than the original LotR films.

A feature length Blizzard full-CGI film would have been more than enough for me. While I think you can pull off some amazing effects in live action (Avengers/Man of Steel) I just think for out of this world stuff CGI is better – Advent Children being a good example for that.

Ugh.. You know movieproducerguy.. Maybe WoW is popular because it’s a good GAME. Mechanically and systemically, and not because the concept of it is SOO GOOD. (generic as fuck I mean)

And Maybe 10M players or whatever doesn’t translate to 10M fat nerds running to cinemas to see this shit. Maybe you’d be better of trying to create a good movie, instead of twisting a franchise like this to beyond recognition, just to get a piece of that “established fanbase”..

And maybe, just maybe, Movies don’t have to cost 200M dollars. FFS.

They better NOT cast Farrell as Arthas. That would be disaster of “Alexander” proportions (Another huge Farrel miscast).

I don’t hate the guy and think he does well when playing over the top villains (Horrible Bosses, Fright Night, DareDevil) or Irish killers (In Bruge) but him in WarCraft? Come on.
