Capcom’s online RPG Deep Down, exclusive to the PS4, will be F2P, Sony Worldwide boss Shuhei Yoshida tweeted last night from TGS. He also said the game will go into open beta near the new system’s launch in Japan in February. See Deep Down gameplay footage from TGS here.

    Are you kidding me?

Microsoft makes a free to pay game and everyone loses their shit. Sony does it and it’s credit to them?

People complained that a Gold sub was required for F2P games on Xbox, not about the F2Pness of it all.

I’d prefer it not being F2P. Capcom is the company I trust least to get F2P right.

Well I’ve got great internet connection, so bring it on..
Honestly thought F2P was on it’s way out. So pointless witholding content like that..

It’s cool getting AAA games for free when you just wanna mess with something for 5 mins though. Just don’t get attatched guys, F2P games are like strippers, they don’t really you love you.

first of all, nothing is left from the brilliance of the first trailer and now it’s a F2P game…couldn’t be worse.

Replace Sony with Capcom, all Sony did was Co-develop the engine.

The blame should go to Capcom.

    They are the publishers.
    The owner and developer.

Pfff… The more it goes, the less I am interested in this game. Visuals look WAY less impressive than what was teased at the announcement.
Then it was said the game was (mostly) an online multiplayer game (I play mainly solo games, or with a bit of co-op like Demon’s Souls).

And now it’s going to be F2P ? By Capcom ? The guys who specialize in crappy DLCs ???
Feels like you’ll have to pay for each level or to progress at all in the game.
Too bad, thought this would turn out like a next gen mix of Dark Souls and Dragon’s Dogma…

@7 MS has free to play games.

This game won’t be FREE.Capcom will find many ways of milking PS4 fanboys of their money. The game looked repetitive and boring anyways. It seems the dungeons change every time you play the game.

Don’t forget it’s for PS4, so you have to subscribe to PS+ in order to play this. That’s fine by me since PS+ is a good deal, and cheap too.

The DIFFERENCE is that although you need PS+ to play online multiplayer games on the PS4, you wont need them for Free 2 Play games at all. Still unknown for subscription-based MMOs.

On the Xbone on the other hand, you need XBL Gold to play anything online, be it F2P or not. Even for Netflix and stuff like that.

Can someone confirm that Gold is required for the TV features?

That is not clear at all!!! You need Gold for Netflix an co. but it is not clear that you need Gold for F2P games on XBL for the XBox One. That is why there are so few F2P games comming to the XBO so far.
Bethesda wants The Elder Scrolls Online playable wihout Gold. The Beta of World of Tanks don’t require a Gold-membership at all.
Microsofts certification process don’t make it easy for F2P concepts, because they don’t want endless Betas and Patches and that is a GOOD thing!

I was listening to 8-4 podcast, and they said that it was absolutely visually stunning to watch, and had some really interesting and new gameplay elements. So I was really looking forward to it…

    …and then they announce that it’s F2P. :/

I’d much rather that they just charged me up front for the whole thing rather than playing a paying meta-game involving real money with me. Nowadays, with DLC being the norm, it’s like the only way to buy a full game is to wait a year or two and buy the game of the year edition. :/

@15 I got this update from a Game Front article.
“UPDATE: September 4, 2013: A Microsoft spokesperson has responded this morning to our request for clarification of Penello’s comments.

Xbox One will have a TV experience for everyone, including non-Gold members. We’ll have more to share and show in the coming weeks.”

I don’t have a problem with it going F2P, saves me the hassle of having to convince a friend to put down money for some coop dungeon crawling

This is how Sony is owning the f2p market on consoles. Whether we like it or not f2p is getting stronger, I for one don’t mind it because people will only buy dlc for good games, so these companies have to make games better to be successful. Making them non ps+ is another wise move as not everyone will get it but everyone will have access to f2p to maximize it’s potential.

SO, how the game will make profit? Is there going to have micro transactions?? Say more, mr. Yoshida.

Actually just thought o something, it’s not fucked yet.

They might do a Killer instinct kinda deal, where there’s like a 0$ digital price point, a 30$ digital price point, and a 60$ boxed release.

Going F2P might cut down on used copies significantly, which is a good thing. But no way in hell do they have the balls to go completely digital! They WILL make a boxed release as well, and if that one is 60$ it’ll be a complete shitstorm if we don’t get all pre-launch dlc, items etc.

YEY, there’s deff hope there. No AAA has been bold enuff to skip retail completely yet, and with good reason!! and it’s not like they can give away physical copies. =D

Too early to doom the game, might be a good romp, if they change the camera I’m still on board. No point in judging from what little we know anyway.
