Those confused on how to upgrade their PS3 games to the PS4 version once the console is released, even with all the news posted on the matter here of late, need not be confused after all – because Sony has posted a tutorial. As announced during PlayStation’s gamescom press conference, players will be able to upgrade digital versions select games, for a low discounted price if if they own the PS3 version. Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Watch Dogs, and Battlefield 4 are the supported titles for this program. When you buy the Blu-ray Disc or digital version for PS3, you can nab the the PS4 digital copy for $9.99. Hopefully we’ve covered everything on this by now. If you need more information head through the links.

Finally! I now know I can keep both versions, one for my ps4 downstairs and one for my ps3 upstairs. Why this took so long to clear up I don’t know

@2 Yes, it depends on the publisher/console manufacturer – some note January others March, and Amazon has a Dec. 31 cutoff (if I read it right).

If you click through the links, and there are MANY in that post, each one tells you the cutoff date :)

**PS3™ game disc required to play digital version of the game on your PS4™ system.

So does the PS3 save file carry over to the PS4?

@6 There is no lie, since they NEVER said the PS4 would play PS3 games on disc. Never. You will be able to enjoy your PS3 games on your PS4 if you wish, using Gaikai (coming 2014).
When I say “you”, it’s general, not especially you noamlol2, since you cancelled your pre-order. Stupid move by the way, if you ask me. For a stupid reason.

#8 if the console CAN read the disks then why, in the fuck couldn’t it just play it?

the whole gaiki schme is just like what they did with the PS2 games on PS3

@noamlol2 it’s funny that you think you know what you’re talking about.

PCs can read bluray discs so why can’t a PC play PS3 and PS4 games herp derp

@noamlol2 its all about the chipset. its an entirely different chipset between ps3 and ps4. as there was between ps3 and ps2. early ps3′s could play ps3 games, but thats because they basically had to include a “ps2″ within the ps3 to be able to do that. that cost a lot. so, when the inevitable price drops along the console lifecycle kicked in, they had to drop the “ps2″ from inside to save money, and so the later slimmer ps3s lost all ps2 backwards compatability.
because of what they will be able to do with gaikai in the future, sony have decided not to put a “ps3″ inside the ps4 from the get go. save some money (which has been passed onto us with the price of the machine being as low as it is) and just offer a form of backwards compatability later on.

no lie, we were told this from the start!

    i hope that helps.
