GTA 5 PS3 install problems: Sony offers another potential fix

Grand Theft Auto 5 owners have experienced a slew of installation problems on both PS3 and Xbox 360. A Sony fix issued back in January could further assist owners of the PlayStation edition.

We covered the initial problems here, along with details of error code 80029564.

Spotted by MCV, Sony issued a statement on the code back in January, and it could offer further assistance to those experiencing issues with the game.

It reads:

“The error code 80029564 which appears while attempting to download a game patch is an indicator that there has been a connection issue to the server during the download attempt. The reason for this may be down to a number of factors.

“Some Virgin Media consumers were experiencing this issue, however this was subsequently identified and fixed by Virgin prior to Christmas ’12. So the if the issue is still persisting there are other reasons this may be the case.

“As the error code is only an indicator of the connection there are several troubleshooting suggestions that can be tried.

“This may be down to load on the server at that point in time, in which case you can wait and attempt to download the file when the servers are less busy.

“There may be a high level of traffic caused by other internet users, so again you may want to attempt the download at a different time.

“If you continue to get the issue you can try resetting the modem and router for a number of minutes, and then restart them. Once this is done try re-establishing a connection between the router and your PlayStation 3 from the beginning.”

It’s an old fix, but it could work. Let us know if you try it below.

Not good. The way the PS3 handles store downloads is horrible. Not meaning to start a console bash here but when you download something from Xbox live, it handles broken connections and downloads, and there is no install.

I’ve downloaded a ton of PSN games, which then take a further half an hour to install, only to find that the download was corrupt, and therefore the install fails.

In this day and age recommending to ‘download that 8GB file again’ or ‘try again when less busy’ is not good enough! Have to feel sorry for the people affected here, especially as they would have paid full whack for the game.

@1 not only is not good enough but the psn version is also dearer !!! its 70e on the eu psn store when your paying that amount on a game you expect it to be running the best !!! Sony have let a lot of people down when it comes to digital.

I had this problem, I’m on virgin media fibre optic. The way I got it to work is to start the download from the store, then don’t select background download. You have to leave your ps3 fir like 4 hours but if you leave it overnight you wake up to it successfully installed. Had the same problem with Lbp karting, still best not happen with ps4
