Red 5 lay-offs hit 10% of staff, development unaffected

Firefall developer Red 5 has issued lay-offs ahead of the free-to-play MMO's launch.

In a press release, Red 5 described the lay-offs as a reorganisation.

The company confirmed it has let go 10% of its staff. The affected employees had been working on Red 5's entertainment channel, Stage 5 TV; as such, development of Firefall is not affected, and a major patch is inbound later this month ahead of launch.

“As Firefall matures, we must transition our priorities and our development strategy to focus on streamlined operations and live product support,” Red 5 Studios CEO and founder Mark Kern said in a statement.

This is one of a couple of recent rumblings from Red 5; the developer recently shut down Firefall's PvP to "completely rethinks" it.

Firefall is currently in its second open beta.
