Gears of War Xbox One: Spencer asks fans to query Epic

Microsoft Game Studios vice president Phil Spencer has said you should ask Epic Games why Gears of War isn't headed to Xbox One.

In a Famitsu interview translated by DualShockers, Spencer was asked whether Gears of War is headed to Xbox One.

"Gears of War is developed by Epic Games, and they’ve been our partners for a long time on Xbox 360. You should ask Epic Games about what they want to do," he said.

"We haven’t announced anything yet about Gears of War, but we hope to bring it to Xbox One in some form. However, there’s nothing more I can tell you at this time."

Spencer's reference to asking Epic about the project is interesting, as is his mention of "hoping" to bring the franchise to Xbox One; that sounds far less solid an arrangement than the franchise's history would suggest. That said, Gears of War: Judgment was quite under-marketed compared to previous entries, which may have soured relationships between the two companies.

We did have a theory that Epic Games had given Gears of War: Judgment to People Can Fly so it could get on with the franchise's first Xbox One instalment - explaining the developer's long triple-A silence - but perhaps the departure of Gears of War creator Cliff Bleszinski had more impact on the property's future than we expected.

Thanks, Dark.
