GameStick will be released globally in October, PlayJam has announced. Originally set for a September 30 release, after its initial June delay, the Android console will now release globally on October 29 for $79.99/£79.99. PlayJam has said it will still send out GameStick to its remaining Kickstarter backers before the system lands at retail, and the first sets started shipping to backers in August.

This is the first time I’ve heard of this device. Like the Ouya, I think it’s pretty pointless if you already own any Android device like the Galaxy S3 or S4 phone or the Kindle. I happen to have both of these and an IPad2. Sure, some of these games will probably play better with a controller then a touch screen, but most of them are specifically designed for a touch screen. In any case, this little device seems a bit better then the Ouya. At least the controller seems more sound. Hopefully it will be compatible with the 360 and PS3 wireless controllers as well. If you don’t own any Android devices for games, this will probably be your best bet. I would wait for the reviews first though. I can’t imagine this could be any worse then the Ouya.
