Kojima has no plans to license the FOX Engine to schools, smaller developers at this time

Hideo Kojima has said there are no longer plans to license the FOX Engine to schools and smaller developers.

Speaking during the opening of the LA arm of Kojima Productions last week, Kojima told Gamasutra that at present, licensing the engine would be "too difficult."

"While, yes, the engine has been shared around internally at Konami, a lot of maintenance will be involved if we're to get the FOX Engine in a workable enough state to license it." he said. "At the moment there are no plans to license it to schools or other organizations.

"Of course, we're always open to discussing it with companies one-on-one, but open licensing is off the table for now."

Kojima announced during a 2011 demonstration of the engine at the University of Southern California, that the FOX Engine would be localized and made to fit classroom and independent development specifications.

The FOX Engine was shown for the first time to the media during E3 2011.
