Kamiya interested in Bayonetta & Okami 3DS spin-offs

Monday, 2 September 2013 12:07 GMT By Dave Cook

Platinum Games director Hideki Kamiya has expressed interest in a 3DS spin-off of Bayonetta starring the character Jeanne, and an Okami title starring fairy Issun.

Speaking with Siliconera at PAX Prime, Kamiya was posed the possibility of portable spin-offs for both series. On Bayonetta he replied, “Given the chance, I’d like to make a game based on Jeanne from Bayonetta. Something that’s not as big in scale. Something that’s portable, that you could play in quick sessions, where she’s a history teacher and the kind of fun things that could come out of a scenario like that.”

He added on Okami, “If I could get away with it, I’d also like to come up with a spin-off of Ōkami, less focused on the grand idea of saving the world, but [rather] something focused on the smaller world of the fairy Issun.”

Would you like to see either game happen? Lets us know below.

PG are a bunch of sellouts , i heard people who work for SEGA and some of my friends know them saying that the reason why SEGA refuse to publish Bayonetta 2 is because of ANARCHY REIGNS

Yes Anarchy Reigns and you know what surprised us , It was Platinum games fault for choosing ANARCHY REIGNS over Bayonetta 2 and PG are the only one to blame with this whole situation and why its pisses of a lot of fans
Well that’s wont stop PG from developing games BUT GUESS WHAT ?

ANARCHY REIGNS Turns out to be a Failure

People who says its SEGA fault are totally and absolutely WRONG
Disagree whenever you want , this is the fact that shows how PG are a bunch of Sellouts to sacrifice their own fans For Nintendo

Its too late to say that , Bayonetta 2 gonna release on the damn Wii U whether we bash PG about this or not

    “sacrifice fans”?
i loved bayonetta. i played it on 360. bayonetta 2 is coming out for wiiu which is an amazing console. cannot spot the problem here tbh…the original bayonetta wasn’t released on wii, so did they “sacrifice” their fans that only owned wii’s back then as well?
some games are platform exclusives, can suck, but that’s how it is. i’d recommend buying a wiiu anyway though, not only for bayonetta. just scratch ps4, x1 from the list for a while, pick up bayonetta2, ww hd, w101, rayman and a wiiu instead. “problem” solved perfectly fine.

    #8 2 years ago
  9. viralshag

Yes but it is a little different when a multi-plat games goes from that to an exclusive. You essentially are going to sacrifice some fans because not everyone is going to be on the desired platform of choice.

In the case of the WiiU, that really is going to be a lot of them. But hey, if Nintendo want to bank roll PG to make games that a lot of people won’t play… who am I to judge?

    #9 2 years ago
  10. Unknown_Gamer

@8 The problem = Anarchy Reigns

Would you rather get Bayonetta 2 on Xbox 360 / PS3 and release the game on mid 2013 or Choose Anarchy Reigns to be published on those consoles ?

    Sounds fishy huh !

Believe it or not , Kamiya was lying the whole time and the same thing goes to the whole PG team for not revealing these information to the public and why they should not shaded what happen between them and SEGA.

Poor SEGA , Why PG did this to you to let people hate you :(

Now PG Can’t stop and they wont stop releasing their games for Nintendo just like the new Miley Cyrus

    #10 2 years ago
  11. OmegaSlayer

@8 scratch PS4/XBone from the list for the WiiU?
Do you drug yourself with cotton candy and glue?

can you please explain your story in a much more calm and clear way?

    #11 2 years ago
  12. polygem

@11. absolutely recommend that to anyone. yes. why not?
much more interesting lineup for the fall, winter, spring. at least imo. makes a lot of sense to buy a wiiu now and wait for x1 and ps4 one more year or so.

@10. i still don’t think this is a big deal. it’s just one game. if people are really really dedicated about this franchise they will buy a console for it. that’s just how it is: i buy xbox for halo and ps for ratchet. there are other great games to enjoy on the wiiu as well.

maybe platinum and nintendo really ARE cooking something like the rumoured colaboration, second party thingy. in this case this situation might just be a…”hey, bayo 2 is coming to the wiiu now. look at w101 as well, do you like these games? well time for you to think about buying a wiiu because more of these games will come to that platform exclusively”.

i think it would be a great strategy and it’s not really hurting anyone is it?

    #12 2 years ago
  13. OmegaSlayer

    Interesting is a subjective concept.
I’m 35, a C64 and Amiga gamer and Nintendo character have NEVER resonated with me.
So, for me WiiU is less appealing than OUYA.

Buying a piece of hardware for one game in my little world made of work and bills to pay is IDIOT.
I guess it would be even more idiot with a family o take care to.

“hey, bayo 2 is coming to the wiiu now. look at w101 as well, do you like these games? well time for you to think about buying a wiiu because more of these games will come to that platform exclusively”
So fuck you Platinum games, you lost me as a consumer.
I have still loads of games to play, Platinum loses Sony and Microsoft 100 million+ fanbase to go on a 4 million user console whose users don’t even buy those games.
    Guess who lose?
I could be bitter, angry, sorry, but not out of the gaming business.

    #13 2 years ago
  14. polygem

see, they’ve lost you as a consumer but that’s not the end of the world. it is just one game. if it makes sense to them in a long term to go second party nintendo, they should do that. you cannot blame anyone that you don’t like nintendo games. that’s definitely nothing platinum could change. there aren’t only nintendo games on the wiiu though……like bayonetta 2 :)

    #14 2 years ago
  15. OmegaSlayer

    It’s not only me LOL
People who has already a WiiU is not buying TW101.
I guess how many people will buy a WiiU in mid 2014 after PS4 and XBone will be released.

I’m not angry for Bayo2 nearly as much as I’m angry for the stupid choice to go exclusive.
    It’s not good for Platinum.

“there aren’t only nintendo games on the wiiu though……like bayonetta 2 :)”
and with that the list is over.

    #15 2 years ago
  16. Fragpuss

the wiiu has been out a year, and still has nothing more than a handful of games, and most of the ones it has are first party nintendo produced games, pretty much no reputable third party devs are even willing to touch it, with EA and Activision already refusing to develop for it, and Ubisoft giving until the end of the year for the wiiu to actually bring some money in before they clear off and refuse to publish games for it, especially after the huge failure of zombiU, and i expect more companies will follow suit

Even in Japan (i have a few friends who live and work there, some in the videogame business) pretty much nobody cares for the wiiu, it’s numbers are down and nobody is buying it, and the japanese love all the quirky novelty stuff, and even they say “no nintendo, what you have made is nothing short of toss”

Also some wiiu exclusives have already been announced as being ported over to ps3/4 and xbox… yep Polygem, nintendo are really in the winning seat now!

Buy whichever console you want, but you if you enjoy games you have no real reason to buy a wiiu.

    #16 2 years ago
  17. monkeygourmet

Why doesn’t Nintendo just buy Platinum & Atlus? Is that possible?

Okami 2 on Wii U would be a perfect fit, as with alot of other games in their respective franchises.

Of course, you would piss a few fanboys off, but people commplained about the casting of Heath Ledger as the Joker…

“Buy whichever console you want, but you if you enjoy games you have no real reason to buy a wiiu.”

Only fanboys would desire such great dev to become a first party.
Btw, its borderline impossible. Atlus is working on exclusive PlayStation and Ninty content, so its probably not going to be owned by either of them.
Which will be good for everyone, except platform fanboys.

dragon. noone “desires” pg or atlus to become second party devs.
this stuff has been rumoured though so it’s alright to speculate about that a bit on a gaming site. no? well, i think it is.
all i was saying is that we all don’t know IF pg and nintendo are working on something right now or not but it COULD make sense for them to sign at nintendo. their games did not sell that great eventhough they are awesome. nintendo have the cash. pg wouldn’t have to worry about cashflow, nintendo would have some unique, quality, critically acclaimed exclusives on their platform.
COULD be a good deal for both.

Nintendo have money and are pretty desperate, hence my original question. I don’t really give a fuck either way, I’m not platform specific but can see how something like Okami would suit the Wii U after playing Wonderful 101…

    #27 2 years ago
  28. polygem

@lb. sure, but nintendo is rumoured as a contender and the difference is…most publishers just aren’t interested, at least not in pg, because their games are great and all but they just don’t sell well. nintendo on the other hand could sink money into these games anyway, they still might not sell better but they would buy into broadening their profile even more. make it more diverse. pg games take on “mature” games would fit their corporate identity much better than most other games’ styles. it would fit into the brand philosophy perfectly. pg games are gameplay beasts. gameplay first. nintendo games are as well.

And along with Francis, they were the only people happy about ninty buying Atlus, which would have sucked for Sony and MS fans.

“Btw, who said ninty was rumored to be a contender”

rumoured, nothing else has been said here.

just the first three i could find.

edit: i’d recommend to read the n4g one dragon.

    let me quote a bit.
this one is just for you dragon:

“It’s no secret that the Wii, for all intents and purposes, was a glorified gimmick for all but those who took the time to see through that facade.”

this is an interesting point or not:
“If Nintendo were to promote Monolithsoft a bit more and obtain a solid house such as Platinum under their corporate umbrella, they would have an almost tangible chance at attaining an Eastern version of the sweet success that is the Xbox 360. Triumphant hardware numbers come as a result of EXCLUSIVE software. A little negotiation could go a long way toward securing a foothold for Nintendo when beefier machines begin to spawn.”

I think people are reading into certain comments too much… Pretty much par for the course on here….

    I said:

“Why doesn’t Nintendo just buy Platinum & Atlus? Is that possible?”

What it boils down to is Sony fans shitting in their shoes at the mere thought of Persona becoming a non PS exclusive.

Again, not that I care, I’m happy to buy Persona on any platform. I have no problem with certain companies making exclusives as long as its within there vision. That’s why you need to have all consoles.

Only fanboys worry about stuff like this. As long as a game is created using the devs vision, it doesn’t matter what platform it’s on. Problems only occur when someone try’s to compromise that vision. Platform exclusivity doesn’t compromise anything IMO, only potential revenue.

It’s funny how you only really hear bitching if its regarding Nintendo. No one really bitched about Otagi, Ninja Gaiden (Xbox), Steel Battalion, Maximo, Panzer Dragoon Orta & Crimson Dragon…

Remember all the Sony fanboy tears after FF13 went to Xbox? I still have some of those in a jar somewhere, that reminds me… I’m thirsty…

On topic: this close relationship with Nintendo is not gaining any favours, the market for their games isn’t on Nintendo platforms, their last project bombed which is bad considering its more than Bayonetta’s budget, this New IP hasn’t been marketed like many of their games.

Its financial relationship will fail in the end.

Just get a 3DS / Wii U… Not exactly going to break the bank and you can play lots more of their games? Did you buy all their games previously?

I have bought every Platinum games title on any platform it falls on, I’m now doing the same with Atlus. How many people complaining actually bother to support the devs they are so ‘worried’ about?

There is an audience for 3DS. I’m just about to play Etrian Odyssey 4 after my girlfriend has finished with it.

If you really support devs, buy the platforms there games appear on.

    You can get a 2DS! :)

Shatner, i have seen this name many times on here who is he/she? I already have a 3DS but i sense thats just a general point. You don’t think complaining shows that they care?

@39 – It’s rumored that Valve is going to buy Altus, Platinum, and Sega to all be exclusive to the Steambox.

I should know. I just started the rumor myself.

    #50 2 years ago
  51. Lengendaryboss

Don’t make me gif counter you :) You have been warned ;)

Its not the audience that will buy into these type of games. E.G GTA Chinatown Wars launched on DS higher audience compared PSP and it barely reached 2 million sold. I kept an eye on EO4 but not really sure about it.

Edit: 2DS? LOL thats nasty, ugly compared to the originals hell its ugly on its own besides i’m not a kid :) People can’t buy various platforms just to support developers for various reasons.

I just think that certain titles need to remain exclusive for healthy competition.

Persona has huge links to Sony platforms for me. That kind of thing.

Shatner was JM’s previous account. He used to bitch about Pats articles and dissect them to such a point he got banned. Now he just does that to other forumites posts. His name is like fucking Voldemort’s in Harry Potter… No one wants to utter it…

  68. Joe Musashi

Hi. What’s going on in this thread? :)

Nobody is pissing over anyone’s personal rights when the people in question chose to give away their personal details on a public forum.

Some pertinent quotes from that topic are “fuck privacy. overrated bullshit.” and even “bye bye anonymity!”. Clearly, the author and participants had complete awareness of what they were doing.

If you value your privacy, don’t give it away. If you do give it away then you can’t accuse others of stalking or misusing the information you chose to put into the public domain.

Perhaps if these people ever considered the consequence of their own actions and behaviour they wouldn’t have to go on baseless tag-team smear campaigns against others.

“How about I get your creepy ass banned for posting my personnal details?”

Somebody needs to learn to act like an adult and be accountable for their own actions before resorting to making hostile threats on the internet.

It’s worth keeping some perspective. Kamiya is not Platinum Games and doesn’t speak for the company – he’s a high-profile employee.

Want me to link to where you gave away your personal details? You appear to have forgotten what you posted.

Seems to be a habit of yours. Always blaming others for your own short-sightedness and irresponsible behaviour.

Or are you just going to carry on your conspiracy theories and hope you can sidestep your own behaviour and carry on insulting, attacking and threatening other people without justification. And then pretend you’re innocent pillars of the community when you claim to have ‘had enough’?

    #72 2 years ago
  73. monkeygourmet

Please do, that’s all I ever asked.

It’s funny how even with this information so freely available, only a select few seem to bring it up or use it in a ‘passive aggresive’ way.

It also speaks volumes how much I seem to have effected certain people’s lives. Flattering, but sad. Now please provide the links.

    #73 2 years ago
  74. Joe Musashi

There, as you requested. Note who started that topic too (and who ‘bumped’ it when it was dormant for months). Whose idea it was to boldly forego anonymity.

Once you post anything publicly on the internet you have no say in how it gets used. That’s the ‘right’ you give away. Nobody is ‘pissing on it’.

No matter how much spin and effort to twist your own actions (which everyone can see is what your comment above is so blatantly obviously laying the groundwork for), you are responsible for what you chose to do and the consequences it brings about.

Perhaps, after your many threats, insults and accusations – which now are shown to be unwarranted – you’ll accept accountability for your own actions and even demonstrate some apology and civility towards those you have wrongly attacked.

EDIT: I’ll add that I made a point of not posting that link without first getting clear permission from Monkeygourmet to do so.

Bless you both. Having a little look at my picture without bothering to actually contribute to the thread?!

Haha! How sweet. I wish I had advertising rights, would have got an extra 2 clicks there…

Seeing as you read all my posts, along with Dragon, you would have noticed I already assumed it was my picture where he found my details. I just wanted confirmation that he was having a little ‘peek’ (didn’t realise you were lurking too) so, accusations of conspiracy theories are unfounded.

What a pair of sad fucks…

    #76 2 years ago
  77. polygem

ok, shit joe, you kinda forced me to come back now :) noone posted their real names in that thread and that’s a huge difference.
that thread was just an attempt to make the community more personal, to make it more personal and therefore more valuable and fun. people take that and abuse it. you say that’s ok. i think it’s not.

There it goes, the death of chivalry. What the hell happened to general decency? From what I can see, that topic was made entirely in good faith and not to be used as an ammunition in case these kinds of heated situation ever arise.
This is just worse than trolling.

    Anyway, on topic.

@81 Your name is visible on the same page that appears when you click the link you posted. It’s in the lower-right.

@99 Once you choose to put your information into the public doman then you relinquish any say in how it gets used.

Making repeated accusations, insults and threats to ban (LOL!) people that do something with (now) public information is beyond petulant.

It’d be nice if you could man up, accept your own error and show a shred of decency and community spirit. Instead of continuing the spinning, lying, threatening and insulting others whose opinions you are unable to tolerate.

So, once again, to give you a fair crack, I will take an undetermined hiatus from this topic. You’ll either show you can be civil and mature or.. won’t.
