The Wind Waker HD’s optional Hero Mode is for those who don’t want an easy go of it

Thursday, 22nd August 2013 21:37 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD’s optional Hero Mode has been detailed, and if you are just now hearing about it, think of it as being extra hard. True heroes never have and easy go of it anyway, you know. According to Polygon, Hero Mode will not contain hearts in the environment nor will fallen foes drop them. The only way to heal is through the use of potions and fairies and enemies will also dole out double damage. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD will be out on Wii U on October 4 in Europe.

That sounds tough, I’m going to go for regular or hard mode if its there.

Thing is that WW is exceedingly easy (in combat survival). The way I challenged myself on one of my last runs was not to add to the 3 hearts you start out with. It’s possible! The game forces 3 heart pieces on you, which is not enough for an extra heart. All others can be left behind, and all full heart expansions dropped by bosses can be left behind. Playing with 3 hearts (instead of up to 20) makes it a lot more difficult toward the end, but still manageable.

This Hero mode sounds very much like the Hero mode in Skyward Sword. There, it really is a royal bitch, since that game is not nearly as easy as WW to begin with.
