Xbox One Kinect can perform motion capture at home

Wednesday, 21st August 2013 12:57 GMT By Dave Owen

Team Dakota, developer of Project Spark, announced at Gamescom today that the game, when paired with the new Kinect, can utilise full-body motion capture, facial motion capture, and audio capture. It’ll all be available straight away.

Project Spark is a ‘game-making’ game. A huge number of games rely on motion capture now, so the option to do in your own bedroom is potentially huge. The game will also come complete with some editing and modulation options. We haven’t seen any of this in action yet, but it’s certainly an interesting prospect.

A new Project Spark trailer was released yesterday showing some of the things that have already been created in the game. Project Spark is an Xbox One exclusive.

Thanks, Kotaku.

Awesome use of the tech – wish both companies would reveal a little more on their plans for the cameras. The hardware’s good, and the next-gen consoles must be able to pull off some new, neat tricks with it…

Having said that, I always wonder who creates all this User Generated Content (apart from, y’know, users). Never known any of my friends make levels in LBP etc., and I’ve never done it either – too busy playing. Maybe we’re all unimaginative dullards…or (referencing the article’s lead image) maybe we’d just prefer to drop a couple of quid buying Angry Birds rather than spending countless hours making a knock-off copy.

If it’s anything like kinects facial scanning…I wouldn’t get excited.

Another great potential use for the Kinect 2. I can see indie developers doing some cool stuff with this technology. Going to be an exciting next-generation.

@8 – How well does the PS Camera capture faces? Does it even provide motion capture at all or do I still need to use Sony’s Wii-mote? So far all I saw was that it can display players on screen while flying orbs shoot lasers at them, which was then followed by low-budget explosions.

Haters… can never be happy, always want more. No matter how you see it, the Kinect 2 is the most powerful and advanced camera for *any* console.
