Pokémon trademarks, concept trailer make everyone excited

Wednesday, 21st August 2013 06:15 GMT By Brenna Hillier

There is no Pokémon fighting game. But there is a cool concept trailer and a couple of trademarks which got everybody very hot under the collar.

During an event to promote the upcoming Pokémon X & Y, a brief snippet of footage showed off what seemed to be a Pokémon fighting game; scan to 2:12 in the video below to see it for yourself.

The Internet was immediately all over this, and the appearance of two new US trademarks – Pokkén Fighters and Pokkén Tournament – filed by The Pokémon Company did nothing to dispel the speculation.

Putting two and two together, Pokémon fans have been throwing ten kinds of excited fits over all this, but spokesperson for The Pokémon Company told Kotaku not to get too excited.

“There is nothing to announce at this time. These are merely conceptual images.”

Oh. Well, maybe it’s fibbing.

Thanks, Shoryuken.

#1 They have said they would always keep the main series on handhelds, as that was where it started. However, a game like Colosseum or XD: Gale of Darkness which were for the Gamecube would be good on the Wii U.
