Ultra Street Fighter 4 PC ditches GFWL for Steam, will launch ‘around the same time’ as consoles, says Capcom

Wednesday, 14th August 2013 08:35 GMT By Dave Cook

Ultra Street Fighter 4 developer Capcom is hoping to launch the PC build of the expanded brawler around the same time as its PS3 and Xbox 360 brethren. The company is also ditching Games For Windows Live functionality for Steam in the release.

As spotted by GAF, Capcom’s Neidel “Haunts” Crisan confirmed the dropping of GFWL:

He then suggested Capcom is targeting a simultaneous launch:

So, a Steam release for Ultra Street Fighter 4 it is then. I recently interviewed Capcom on the expanded edition where we discuss why the new characters aren’t just mere rips from Street Fighter x Tekken. Check it out here.

dont be so f**king dramatic, GFWL was fine. It was just gobshites like you who couldn’t use it correctly or was pissed that it affected the pirated versions of the games it used.

@2 Sure pal a system that encrypts saves, losing them if you don’t backup both save and encryption key (key in hidden folder), no cloud saves, a patching system that requires game restarts (are we in the fucking 90s?). An interface designed by fisher price, no meaningful service update since 2009, a downloading system; with no ETA, MB to download, MB downloaded, a progress percentage etc. Face it, the software was rushed out and never fixed.

The only people who enjoyed it that I know of are achievement whores. If you want achievements go play your Xbox, don’t saddle PC players with shit software from last decade.

Also lol at the piracy comment, go check some torrent sites. GFWL games were just as badly pirated as others. All GFWL did was reduce sales due to shitty software used to port games quicker. Which is always a sign of a bad port. Bulletstorm, Dark Souls, Batman: Arkham City, GTA 4, etc.

Microsoft themselves couldn’t even make a decent game in a timely manner or one that sold well… Fable III (where was Fable II btw?!), Age of Empires Online, Gears of War, Halo 2 and Flight. None of those titles sold well on PC. They were so poorly optimised and had BS like Halo 2 Vista only.

Microsoft continues its awesome support of the PC platform to this date. Ohh wait… When was the last AAA PC title they made? Fable III? Microsoft deserves a massive FU. Sony’s done better. Planetside 2 ftw.

Go back to your Xflop and soon xbone idiot fanboy.

GFWL is gone, GIVE THANKS, but…Isn’t it the case that Ultra will be released as a downloadable add-on, as well as a standalone. How will that work, given that everyone playing SF4 on PC so far would have their game registered to GFWL account?

Maybe, they’ll allow a one-time-exchange of the GFWL key for a Steam version of AE2012?
