Call of Duty Ghosts multiplayer reveal: recapped here

Wednesday, 14th August 2013 08:51 GMT By Dave Cook

Call of Duty: Ghosts developer Infinity Ward will reveal the game’s multiplayer component. Watch the event live from L.A. here at 10:30am Pacific / 18:30 UK / 19:30 European.

The stream will go live at 10:30am Pacific / 18:30 UK / 19:30 European.

Following this week’s teaser trailer, Activision and Infinity Ward are ready to show us Call of Duty: Ghosts multiplayer, and our L.A. freelancer Catherine Cai is on location to give us the big news as it drops.

The presentation began with a trailer that looked fairly typical until lady soliders showed up. Yes, you will finally be able to play a woman in Call of Duty.

Ghosts will have seven new multiplayer modes, more than 20 new killstreas and 30 new weapons, as well as a new class. You’ll also be able to customize the appearance of your multiplayer character to a degree unprecedented for the franchise.

Players will be able to import their profiles to the next generation, if they, say, buy it on Xbox 360, then later get it on Xbox One. Imports can only occur in a single brand, meaning you can’t take your 360 profile to PS4.

One new mode is called Cranked. Cranked is a variation on team deathmatch in which kills will enhance your agility and speed, but if you don’t get your next kill quickly you’re spontaneously combust.

Call of Duty: Ghosts hits PC, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii U on November 5. It will also release on PS4 and Xbox One in due course.

I wonder if you can play as a dog…

I can’t remember who said it but someone posed that just because Call of Duty gets lots of player numbers doesn’t mean it’s good.

    Sheer madness.

Those players keep coming back because they personally like it and *they personally* think it’s good. We all have different barometers of quality. It’s like me saying I fucking detest the Fast and the Furious films, yet millions of people see them each year.

Let’s just let people like what they want and chill the fuck out eh. Let’s have a pint or something, jesus :P

He made a damn good point.
Also I cant begin to understand the mechanics of campers as well. Is it fun to camp and play like a pussy?

    #12 1 year ago
  13. Dave Cook

@11 yeah but campers are easy to beat if you know how. They end up with shit scores in the end too. Fuck ‘em, seriously.

Nah, they didn’t make a good point. It was foolish. I don’t understand why some people just can’t let others like what they want.

    #13 1 year ago

Well, if MS get their matchmaking system sorted out on X1, hopefully all the campers will end up playing no one else but campers, and they’ll finally see how antisocial their tactics are.

Yea, maybe many plays it, but ITS THE SAME GAME FOR YEARS. EVEN THE ENGINE IS THE SAME (for the next gen), thats how activision cares. And we made because we liked the old games and we are sad cause how it is now.

First pirates don’t play COD MP. Second, please don’t make fun of PC because we dont have still GTA V PC: console guys forget that without the technologies of the PC you will never play good games (next gen consoles are based on technologies from AMD and ATI, my actual PC).
COD games don’t atract me (but i’ve played MW2 and MW3) because it’s to much speed and the maps are too small. Just look at BF3 and COD guys will be ashamed.
If you don’t want pirate games, it’s easy: prices command this. make the games more available and everybody will be happy! Grand Theft Auto V Special Edition PS3 costs 99,99 euros in Portugal. GameStop sells it for 79.99 us dollars (that 60.80 euros). Splinter Cell Blacklist Ultimatum Edition PC costs 60 euros in Portugal but Gamestop sells it for 59.99 USD (45 somethin euros). And that’s on Portugal, a country with a financial crysis, courtesy of politics bullshit.
As you see the difference is always in favour of nice countrys like US and UK. People will play more official games if you have more nice prices! It’s easy!

  20. backup

it started on PC and PC pirates not buying the game was the main cause no matter how u twist it

PC =/= Nvidia and ATI they make technologies for mobile

another justification of piracy also PC pirates have money to buy graphics card and not games u got owned so hard

“Nah, they didn’t make a good point. It was foolish. I don’t understand why some people just can’t let others like what they want.”

    Because of ‘pollution’.

You may love living in a city with lots of industrial stuff going on, but if in turn that starts to pollute neighbouring towns, of course people are going to get a bit pissed.

Many people do love COD, but dev’s are taking all those people who only buy the next COD and FIFA for example as a representation of gamers in general.

Thats a very poor way to view a demographic and ultimatly leads to the pollution and fatigue of other brands who try and follow.

Also, publishers see things as a failure if they don’t reach COD’s lofty heights. IMO it’s created a false demographic that should be split apart from people who enjoy more varied titles.

Someone who just buys COD and FIFA (there are millions), should not be used statisitcally in market research of ‘what every gamer wants’.

And that is whats happening at the moment, it’s plain to see and why most companies have tried to create a COD killer or gimped other titles to compete with it.

Thats why I think the business model sucks and does more damage than it does good, regardless of how many people ‘enjoy’ it.

  24. M. K.

@23: Still it’s not the problem of the customers, it’s simple greed of the Publishers ;)

Could anyone explain, if this is going to be a real presentation, or just a Multiplayer Introduction Video like the ones in the past years?

    #24 1 year ago
  25. monkeygourmet

No, but when there is a generation shift, these practices easily become the ‘norm’ and acceptable.

That is sometimes to do with ignorance. Must younger gamers don’t even see the problems that chopping up games into DLC sections, subscriptions can have, as they don’t know any better.

Or have had first hand experience of companies like Acti ploughing franchises into the dirt.

So, in that respect, I feel the consumer does have some responsibility if they want to change things in the future.

  26. _LarZen_

@13 “I don’t understand why some people just can’t let others like what they want.”

A product they do not like is getting to much attention and they feel “left out” and they need to lash out.

This is something you can see in many different products, especially games like Call of Duty and operating systems like Android and iOS.

It’s really interesting thing watching the need so many have to justify and proclame that they have better taste and opinion then millions of others. Funny but tiresome in the long run…

    #26 1 year ago
  27. monkeygourmet

    But thats not really it.

You’ve side stepped the fact that a lot of people on play COD & FIFA over and over again.

I wouldn’t say that was taste, but verging on addiction.

Their inclusion in balanced market research should be analysed more carefully IMO.

Regardless of how many “gamers” whine and cry about it, people will continue to play whatever the hell they want. Period. CoD is no more milked than a lot of other popular franchises.

Lego has been around a lot longer. Anyone want to challenge their right to even exist? People enjoy that too, so might as well attack it.

    #30 1 year ago
  31. Lengendaryboss

Does it influence the genre like COD did?

Does it even sell gangbusters like COD does?

If we are talking about milking like @29 said there are plenty of franchises being milked to high hell more than COD.

  33. bradk825

@31 Heard of mega blocks and duplo? Yes, it has influenced a genre.

I’m just pointing out how rediculous you guys sound, that’s all. You can criticise DLC all you want but the fact is COD has always been good about DLC compared to others. The DLC is not essential to the story or the experience. You don’t get ostracized for not buying it (Halo 3) or miss essential story elements (Mass Effect 3), you just don’t get new maps.

COD did not invent DLC. Expansion packs were available for games on floppy disk, it’s the same thing, only over the internet.

If others are unable to duplicate what COD is doing without fucking it up, they should come up with their own ideas, but to blame CoD for the lack of originality of others is retarded.

  34. deathm00n

@23 I completely agree with MG @23. COD might be as good as you want. And it is, I gotta agree, it’s a fun game. BUT, it got so much attention that it’s letting much works being left in the shadows. New developers feel the pressure above them, I’m sure of it.

Want a better example than Lego? Look at sports for instance. I live in Brazil, the majority of people loves football, but do you think EVERYONE likes football? No, I don’t, I like way more basketball, but since football is the “country love”, basketball is left in the shadows, with no advertising and no funding, compared to football. A monopoly is never something good for people who wish to get things they really like, not what other people says is good.
