Guild Wars 2: The Queen’s Speech is ArenaNet’s next update, which will see Queen Jennah make some sort of big announcement, as well as a slew of anniversary-related gifts and events thrown into the mix.

In a press release sent to VG247 today, publisher NC Soft confirmed that ArenaNet will hold a developer’s livestream on August 19, during which members of the team will discuss the update’s new features.

The Queen’s Speech event will kick off August 20 with Queen Jennah revealing something quite special to mark the occasion then, on August 31, players can take part in Guild Wars 2′s first Anniversary Bash and Invitational Tournament.

Characters created back when Guild Wars 2 first launched will also receive special birthday gifts from the studio, while new competitive changes are as follows:

  • World vs. World XP and Point adjustments – the World XP rate is increasing
  • We’re making it easier to earn World XP points for playing normally in World vs. World by increasing the WXP rate across the board! As an added bonus, we’re adjusting World vs. World Ability Points so that your total points are equal to your current rank. New characters will start off with one ability point, and all existing characters will receive one more.

  • World vs. World Trebuchet Mastery
  • Become a master of destruction with the new Trebuchet Mastery ability line! Increase your efficiency with Trebuchets by upping your basic shot damage, increasing your Trebuchets’ hit radius, adding a new supply-draining effect to your basic shot, and learning a new Healing Oasis skill that provides healing to your teammates.

  • The End of Culling in PvE – the limit on the number of characters players can see on screen is being removed
  • On 20th August, we’re turning off culling, which will remove the limit on the number of characters you can see on-screen at once. The cities of Tyria will now be even more vibrant and bustling than ever

What do you think Jennah will announce? Let us know below.

Love this game! Don’t know anyone else who plays it though. :D Took a break from it for a while but they seem to have added a fair bit of new stuff.

This could have been the best MMO ever made, if there was tiered content… Not saying ALL tiered content, but at least some.

You can’t treat the hardcore players the same as the casual, it doesn’t work. The interest to keep playing simply isn’t there, because someone who played 500 hours shouldn’t be on the same level as someone who has played 6,000… Just my opinion though.

@1, It is indeed great, I came back to it after a break too and its fantastic.

@2, They aren’t on the same level, hence why the game has Fractals of the Mists which increases in difficulty. It just places more of an emphasis on tactics and skill rather than useless gear stats, someone who has just started the game will be nowhere near as good as someone who has a great build, top level gear and good skill.

@3 – Fractals increase in difficulty yes… Gear however is no different than at level 1.

@4, the stats on gear still increase as in any other MMO. You don’t get gear with say 10 armour at both level 1 and 80. Have you actually played the game? Lol. There’s also Ascended Gear now which is the highest tier.

@2 I’ve faced people with higher level gear than me and beaten them. Why? Because I was smarter than them. I had counters for stuns and slows, knew when to dodge, and knew how to basically immobilize and destroy them. All they knew how to do was a lot of damage, which i heavily negated.

Gear doesn’t honestly mean much. It can contribute to you successfully surviving, especially VIT gears, but if you build tanky in traits or dodges, gear doesn’t even matter. Its player skill, unlike most MMOs. Try again, and instead try to learn positioning and tactical play better before you bash the games balancing.

Hell even in commanders skill is more important. My server specifically has better commanders because they know how to do tactics better, they have caused us to literally win free points just by being strategically smart. Its mind over matter in GW2, not the other way around. I’ve taken down lvl 80 thieves in WvW with my lvl 45 Necro, all because I knew how to counter and outplay him, even though my damage barely ticked away at him.
