Platinum Games to make announcement after today’s Wonderful 101 Nintendo Direct

Friday, 9th August 2013 10:37 GMT By Dave Cook

The Wonderful 101 developer Platinum Games is to make some kind of announcement following its Nintendo Direct web-cast today. As you’d suspect, the rumour mill is in full tilt.

I’m guessing it won’t be a Bayonetta 2 multi-platform announcement seeing as Nintendo is the game’s publisher. We all know how Satoru Iwata feels about going multi-platform.

The announcement was confirmed over on The Wonderful 101 blog, which led to confusion on the matter. It was unclear if the announcement would be made during the broadcast or afterwards. Platinum Games has now clarified its position on the matter over on Twitter:

What do you think it could be?

You can tune in to The Wonderful 101 Nintendo Direct cast today at 3pm UK / 4pm Europe / 7am Pacific / 10am Eastern. We’ll have coverage here as it happens.

It can’t be multiplatform surely? Not after a Nintendo Direct, that would be mental! :)

I hope it’s some kind of deal with Nintendo for a ‘Capcom 5′ type deal.

Vanquish 2 that type of thing.

5 Exclusives that would really help the Wii U out.

no, then it would be at the end, not after
If it’s right after, it might be bayonetta 1 on eshop, maybe nintendo purchasing them as developer, or bayonetta 2 no longer wiiu exclusive..
Either way, now that they are done with 101 they will start up their new project, curious if it will still be wiiu exclusive or not. Nintendo should throw money and just buy them out, with thier shit third party support they need strong partners.

Yep, It would be a good move.

Maybe Platinum are re-booting an old franchise?

    Although I can’t imagine a Nintendo IP that would suit Platinum’s style…?

    @3

It’s prob this or Bayonetta 1 with off screen play as @4 said.

If it was B2 going multi-platform, then, yeah, Nintendo’s pretty fucked (even more fucked).

Some interesting suggestions. I think #3 is a good bet. It’ll promote both games having a cross-over character like that. And it’ll also strengthen the perception of the relationship between Platinum and Nintendo.

That is the most likely suggestion, but also the most boring IMO.

A new game or franchise re-boot is whats needed at the moment. Knowing Nintenod, it’ll be something like the Smash Brothers thing or the fact you can play as Pikmin in Wonderful 101…

All these comments seem pretty valid, I’d like to think that Nintendo would buy Platinum though, as Sini stated, their 3rd support is dire so Ninty really need to get their ass in gear and get hold of exclusive content for Wii U to even stand a shred of chance.

I think that Nintendo buying Platinum would be an incredibly shrewd move. They make must-have games that never quite seem to sell enough on the other platforms, but really appeal to a Ninty gamer’s sensibilities, and under Ninty’s financial wing…

I’d even take 2nd party. Certainly if Ninty could buy them they should…

Oh nice. Perhaps their publishers can learn a thing or two about their own games. Hmmm? You listening Nintendo?

@12 DrDamn, its Nintendo, why would you need a demo?

if its a big game with a lot of Nintendo marketing muscle behind it, you know its going to be a 9 out 10 type of game… At least thats probably Nintendo’s reasoning…. But with Wonderful 101 its so obscure that it might actually need a demo to build hype… but a game like Pikmin 3 doesn’t need a demo, the hype was already at a fever pitch for it.
