The Bureau: XCOM Declassified developer 2K Marin has released a new dev diary clip that discusses the title’s art-shift between the 2010 and 2013 versions of the game.

According to the team the art style become more serious and dark following the shift in tone, and to create a feeling of tension and urgency amid the alien invasion.

You can also find out more of what changed between versions in my interview with 2K Marin.

The Bureau: XCOM Declassified hits PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 in North America on August 20, and across Europe August 23.

Sorry, but the black goo and polymorphing / transforming aliens were far cooler than the updated and very generic grey aliens. Which work great for classic turn based xcom, but not for this game. I gotta say, the early trailers for this game looked so much better stylistically and tone wise, that I really don’t like what this game turned into. 2K Marin should have stuck with the original vision and just changed the name to a non XCom title. Thats what everybody wanted. But instead, they kept the name and completely changed the game to something that I never wanted anyway.
