New site offers trade-in price comparisons in the UK

Thursday, 8th August 2013 13:35 GMT By Dave Cook

Trade-In Detectives is a new UK site that hopes to offer game trade comparisons across the UK.

In a press release sent to VG247, the company was confirmed as set up by game retail veterans Ben Grant and Matt Precious and you can use the service free of charge here.

The site even has a launch trailer:

In a statement, co-founder Ben Grant said, “in the UK, we estimate that over 43 million units are traded into retail or sold online by consumers on an annual basis, with a quarter of this figure purely transacted online through cash converting services such as eBay, Music Magpie and Gumtree – which would make the total pre-owned market circa £800m in sales value.”

Fellow co-founder Matt Precious said, “Publishers and format holders should use the Retail trade in model to their advantage. Think of customers of old games and consoles as a form of currency, to drive sales of new products.

“Our previous experience has taught us that customers who use the trade in model at specialist stores, have a much higher average transaction frequency, that is more than double than those customers who do not.”

    There is a site like this in Canada: http://tivs.ca

    TIVS = Trade-in Values

    They have a deals forum on there as well to discuss Canadian (and sometimes US) gaming deals.

    Awesome site!

    New UK site just launched: Power Trade In
    However its different as they deal in more than just games and only give details of games that can be immediately sold for cash profit of a greater value than their initial cost. You have to sign up and they send detail by email.
