Dota 2 International starts, prize pool hits over $2.7 million

The Dota 2 International Championship has started, and the prize pool has reached $2.7 million. Earlier this week the prize pool hit $2.6 million.

The tournament gained 400,000 concurrent live viewers within hours of going live as folks battle it out at Valve’s headquarters in Seattle.

Participants include 2011 International Champion Na’Vi from Ukraine, 2012 International Champion Invictus Gaming from China, and this year's favorite, Alliance from Sweden.

1v1 Solo Championship and an All-Star match with players voted on by the fans will also be hosted.

The prize pool will only continue to increase as more people purchase the Interactive Compendium.

From the $1.6 million basethe prize pool for The International increases by $2.50 for every sale of the $10 Compendium.

The total passed $2 million as recently as May.

The International 3 Main Event happens on August 7 and lasts through August 11 and will be streamed on Twitch.
