Star Citizen crowdfunding total tops $15 million

The most profitable gaming crowdfunding campaign continues to swell its record-breaking coffers.

In a celebratory post on RobertsSpaceIndustries, Cloud Imperium Games announced the Star Citizen campaign has now passed $15 million in pledged and pre-purchases.

By passing the latest stretch goal, backers have unlocked another flyable ship class, the escort carrier, as well as a 42-page free digital Upgrade Handbook manual.

At $16 million, they'll score a simulation mode called Arena, and a laser pistol for every backer. At $17 million, there'll be a ship upgrade package for every pledger containing an engine modifier, and an additional flyable ship class called the battlecruiser.

"Ten years ago, big publishers decided space games weren’t profitable, and you are proving them very, very wrong," the post said.

Star Citizen is coming to PC in 2014.
