XCOM: Enemy Unknown proves console quality apps viable - Take Two

$20 apps can and do work, Take Two boss Strauss Zenick has declared, on the back of a strong performance from the iPad release of XCOM: Enemy Unknown.

"The success of XCOM: Enemy Unknown for iOS illustrates that consumers are willing to pay a premium price for a premium entertainment experience on any platform," Zelnick said during Take Two's investor briefing call today, as noted by Games Industry.

"This bodes well for the opportunity to deliver profitably our most immersive new AAA titles to mobile platforms as they evolve."

Although he didn't give any hard figures, Zelnick told listeners that the $20 XCOM: Enemy Unknown made it into the App Store's top ten highest-grossing chart.

Now that tablets are becoming powerful enough, Zelnick said he hopes mobile versions of triple-A games can launch alongside PC and console releases.

Do read Steph's report of the Take Two financial results and call; we'll have a full transcript tomorrow and will go over it for any further interesting snippets.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown holds a 92 Metacritic average on iPad.
