Battlefield 4′s Battlelog lets players use browsers as second screen

Friday, 26th July 2013 08:21 GMT By Dave Cook

Battlefield 4′s Battlelog service was debuted last night in a reveal trailer from DICE. The clip showed examples of how your mobile and tablet can be used to play Commander mode, tweak loadouts, queue servers and more. The studio has now confirmed you can use your browser as a second screen instead.

Over on Reddit, Battlelog producers “TheBikingViking” and “DarkLord7854″ confirmed that browsers can be used as a second screen on your laptop or if your PC has dual monitors to run Battlelog’s suite of features while you play the game.

Here’s the excerpt:

The “Battlescreen” view can be accessed on any device with a browser technically. It’s not an app either, just a straight-up web-page. It doesn’t sound like it’s being optimised for mobile though.

There’s also an invisible mode for those who want to stay incognito while they play.

What do you make of Battlelog so far? Let us know below.

Thanks MP1st.

This is amazing! Seriously. I remember of reddit a user dreaming of using his second monitor as a minimap and all secondary information. Seems like DICE listened. The fact you can do it on basically any device with a browser is very impressive!

Personally I’m going to run BF4 on a PS4 attached to the 2nd HDMI port of my computer monitor, so I will most likely have my laptop screen available for the minimap right next to my monitor. That is super useful!

DICE are really innovating in the FPS game space. CoD: Ghosts seems like another rehash of the same old formula. The engine, gameplay, and features look even more tired now that DICE are pushing their tech.

I hope we see this kind of functionality on all games, especially ones using frostbite. Imagine Dragonage inquisition with the minimap or inventory on a second screen! One of my major gripes with Skyrim was that inventory management on consoles was so time consuming. Being able to do all of that on another screen or iPad would be wonderful!
