Alice: Otherlands films sign Hong Kong director Tsui Hark

Alice: Otherlands creator American McGee has announced that Hong Kong writer, director and producer Tsui Hark has signed up to assist production of Spicy Horse's series of Alice animated shorts, funding now on Kickstarter.

Over on the Alice: Otherlands campaign page, McGee announced Hark's involvement. His resume includes such films as Once Upon a Time in China, The Blade and Seven Swords, among others, and McGee explained that Hark's penchant for fighting and action put him in good stead for the project.

In a statement on the blog, Hark said of the announcement, "Alice wanders in the eye-boggling fantasy land. The madness and violence reveal the inner power of a teenager fighting in a hypocrite world of the adult villains.

"I can already see the impact of the story as a movie. I'd be more than enthusiastic to participate in any effort to make it possible for Alice to come alive on the big screen. I'd join the team to make this project a wonderful success."

At the time of writing, the Alice: Otherlands Kickstarter has raised $94,269 of its $200,000 goal with 13 days of funding left.

Last week, McGee spoke with me about the project in some detail. Check out what he said here.

Thanks Polygon.
