PlanetSide 2 dev scraps paid-for buffs after fan uproar

PlanetSide 2 developer Sony Online Entertainment has canned plans to introduce paid-for buffs after fans took to Reddit to voice their disapproval.

Eurogamer reports that the decision was made after fans spooled off their complaints on several Reddit threads like this one.

Sony Online Entertainment president John Smedley then took to Twitter to announce that the strategy had been nuked:

Fan’s feared that introducing paid buffs would veer into ‘pay-to-win’ territory and spin the game’s economy off its axis.

Meanwhile, PlanetSide 2 is heading to PS4, but players on Sony’s console will be confined to their own servers, leaving cross-play with PC gamers uncertain.

Good! I understand they need to get some revenue tho. They should open up a subscription model for the most dedicated players.

Maybe JS has finally learned from his mistakes, after destroying Star Wars Galaxies with NGE and all the false bull shit he spouted out prior to it arriving.

@1 There is already subscription model in place for this game also they have hinted very clearly that they are making really nice income / profits from current microtransactions.

PlanetSide 2 is doing just fine when it comes to milking cash from players, I just hope they would actually balance game some day.
