Somebody is making a 2D fighting game based on League of Legends

Wednesday, 17th July 2013 07:48 GMT By Phil Owen

League of Legends is only the most popular game in the world right now, and so it’s about time that some folks have begun creating some derivative works. Some folks who call themselves Team Instaburst are now building a free 2D fighter called League of Fighters based on the, ahem, legendary MOBA, and they say that LoL creators Riot Games are totally cool with it as long as they don’t sell it. And there’s actually a trailer, but it’s still early in the process. Check it out, though.

I’d play that. Would you?

LoL devs could make a quick buck publishing this on mobile and taking a cut.
They’d only have to put a notice in the lobby and there’d be a million downloads the first hour.

Wait, that kid is a character in LoL? That already strikes me as a bit off, here it seems even moreso. I don’t think I’m particularly comfortable with depictions of children as brutal killers.

At least here it’s only to a knockout, and absolutely not to a death. That’s better than the majority of the mainstream, which revolves around all kind of murder, including that of animals. That’s one thing that continues to irritate me about mainstream games, really. “Oh look, an uncharacteristically aggressive wolf that would actually have to be rabid and half dead to be that crazy normally, and I have to slaughter it to move on.

Frankly, I’m already at the point where murderous violence is very passé to me. I’m tired of that. So honestly? Even a knockout in a 2D fighter is better than the majority of the mainstream with all of its mindless slaughter. It’s like we gamers have nothing better to do than kill, kill, and kill some more. It’s what our past-time seems to be predominantly about – killing things.

It’s funny because to any more advanced and more peacefully inclined alien species out there, we probably look pretty fucked up thanks to our entertainment.

I guess what I’m saying is that as bad as this is, it’s only a knockout. There is, frankly, oh so much worse on offer.
