The Last of Us has held firm at top of the UK charts for a fifth consecutive week, marking another strong week for Naughty Dog’s tale of post apocalyptic survival.

Aliens: Colonial Marines in at number 10? Hang your heads in shame, UK folk! :p

I like the list. Something like GTA IV beating out games released in 2013 is funny. Even seeing LEGO Batman 2 and Most Wanted there… either you guys and girls are extremely bored and would settle for anything to entertain you, or you have the gift to see something that others don’t.

Wish The Last of Us would just disappear now. Overhyped, overrated game. Only getting the praise it has been getting because it’s Naughty Dog who worked on it.

@1 Aliens is dirt cheap at the moment. Even though it’s not a great game, people will buy it just because it’s aliens.

That is an impressive hold for a new IP. Best thing is, it deserves it.

How can both Last of Us and Aliens CM be in the top 10? It’s like having a great dish of soup sitting besides a jar of piss.

@12: Because too many people these days think shit is gold and gold is shit. But, we’ve known this based on some of the games praised as masterpieces of this generation.

Realistically, the most likely reason Aliens: Colonial Marines made it to the top ten is the same one behind why Tomb Raider has been so high on the charts: price reductions make people more willing to spend their money on something they would not have bought previously. I don’t know of any specific moments where it was reduced in price for the UK, but last month it was part of a special deal on Amazon. A:CM reached the point where it went from “so hated that I should avoid it” to “there’s so much controversy surrounding it and so many hilariously awful videos and GIFs that I want to check it out for myself.”

Yes, we’ve reached the point of video games being treated like vapid Hollywood where “so bad it’s good, take my money” from consumers can happen.
