Steam Summer Getaway Sale is live – go buy something

Thursday, 11th July 2013 18:07 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

The Steam Summer Sale is live. Go get some deals on games here if you can see the page – the site is overburdened at the moment. We’ve posted some screencaps for you just in case below.

Right now, title like Bioshock Infinite, Skyrim, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Grid 2, Don’t Starve and more are 75% off.

The usual eight-hour Flash Sales are running and you can also, as usual, vote on what goes on sale next.

Buying discounted games during the sale will also earn you Trading Cards, 10 of which can only be earned during the sale. Each set can be crafted into badges, backgrounds, emoticons and other rewards.

Hit up Steam for more information.

The Summer Gateway Sale runs July 11-22. This handy tracker will help you stay on top of the deals.

A tip for newcomers, it’s better to keep an eye at the flash deals before buying the games of the day, only buy the deals of the day near the end of the day, last year with $25 I bought 8 games.

I’m baffled at how Valve can have soooo much money, yet they always fail to have enough server capacity for when a sale hits. You would think they knew what they were doing by now, even if it is Valve…

So after being absent from pc gaming for some years this is my first steam summer sale. I’d really like to pick up Rogue Legacy which is on sale already (but not one of the dailys or flash sales). Is there a chance this will become a daily or flash sale later on or should I just get it now?

    #9 1 year ago
  10. deathm00n

@9 Wait for it to appear on the daily, and still keep an eye on flash, it might be on daily and then change to flash an become even cheaper

If anyone is interested in BioShock Infinite its cheaper on GMG, £14.99 + another 20% off I believe…

  15. DSB

Yeah, the offers really aren’t as good as GMG. But there are a couple of good ones.

  16. KineticCalvaria

@15, yeah exactly, part of the reason I have most the games I’ve wanted already, because of the cheaper prices on GMG without having to wait for the Steam sales.

Still, some decent prices sure enough.

I’ve been trying to buy Hotline Miami for an hour now…

  18. powerbuoy

Perhaps a stupid question, but if I buy it on GMG can I still add it to my Steam Games (and use all the community features etc)?

Love it! GRID2 is £18, and I want Borderlands 2 if it wins the vote to be on sale in 8 hours time. Wallet and bandwith to take a hammering!

And sorry GMG are charging £45 for Rome 2 – letsalljusttakethepiss.com

How’s Endless Space? Has anyone tried it? Is it worth 8 euros?

    #25 1 year ago
  26. KineticCalvaria

@21, or £26.99 physical copy… which is cheaper than the digital via Steam… oh and probably an extra 20% off with a code. :P

Plus nearer launch it’ll probably be half the price on GMG.

  27. GK

grimrita, but you miss great deal in GMG,B2+SP was just 15e and you could used 10 voucher :)

    #27 1 year ago
  28. KineticCalvaria

@27, it’s okay he’d rather just spend more on Steam :)

    #28 1 year ago
  29. GrimRita

@27 I dont want Bioshock tbh. @28 – so? Steam gives me much more than just a game, so if I do pay a little extra, I see it as value for money

Are any of these games actually 75 percent off? I’m not seeing it.

  31. GK

what? B2+SP are Borderlands 2+season passsssssss, and it was Steam key,soooooo…..
just in case,i voted for B2!

  32. MidlifeAxe

@31 I bought Bioshock Infinite on GMG and it gave me a Steam key.

    #32 1 year ago
  33. DSB

@29 It’s really not. You’re getting the exact same thing. And even if you buy it on GMG, you’re still giving a percentage to Steam, because the publisher chose to distribute through them.

@32 It’s pretty simple, if it says “Requires Steam account” on the product page, you’re getting a Steam key.

Does anyone recommend don’t starve for $9?

  37. GK

does it worth to buy L4Dead bundle or just L4dead 2?

    #37 1 year ago
  38. DSB

Scribblenauts is cute but it gets old quick, Hotline Miami depends on how much you love a challenge, and L4D2 sucked in my opinion. It just wasn’t as fun as the first one.

  39. absolutezero

Bollocks to this, I think I’ll just go play something and try later on.

  42. YoungZer0

@36: Depends. Do you like perma death games with a mix of minecraft?

    #42 1 year ago
  43. TheWulf

I think Scribblenauts is like Minecraft in some ways — what you put into it, or what you are able to put into it, is proportionate to what you’ll get out of it. It’s one of the best games for player-authored solutions I’ve ever played, even better than Portal in that regard. Now, I’m not saying something ridiculous about this game being better than Portal, it isn’t, but it does put more power in the hands of the player to author their own solutions.

You can come up with some really wild solutions to some puzzles and you’ll just sit there for a moment, blinking, and astounded that that idea worked. Scribblentauts is at its best when you’re actively challenging yourself to come up with the most completely unorthodox solutions to puzzle.

So I dig it in that regard.

  44. DSB

Don’t Starve was far too linear for me.

It was fun for a while, but there are only so many things you can do with it, and unlike Minecraft there are a lot of things you’re forced to do, so it feels less like survival – as in being clever and defeating nature and the elements – and more like doing chores so you can live for a few more days.

    Awesome art style though.
