Unity passes 2 million users worldwide

Unity Technologies has announced that over 2 million people have registered as Unity Engine users worldwide.

GI.biz reports on figures released by Unity this morning, confirming that while it took seven years for it to reach a million users, it has smashed through the 2 million barrier in the subsequent 15 months. It now boasts 400,000 active users per month.

Unity CEO and co-founder David Helgason said in a statement, "We are proud of this new milestone that we have reached for what it means to the vision to democratise the game industry.

"In 2005 we started out with a few hundred users and the goal of making game development accessible to everyone across an increasing array of platforms and devices. We continue to dream big and innovate for our developers."

The news comes as Unity's next Unite conference approaches. It takes place between August 28-30 at the Vancouver Convention Center in Canada. We'll have more coverage on all things Unity then.

For now, you can read my big interview with Unity CEO David Helgason about how the company looks to democratise game development.

Based on today's figures I'd say they're doing a good job so far, wouldn't you? Let us know what you think below.
