Bungie releases entrancing song from Destiny soundtrack

At the Activision booth at E3 they had a 122-ft. superwidescreen projection screen called the Ronut (it wrapped around where viewers stood to watch) showing off their games. It had a sort of demo reel for Destiny in the rotation, and Bungie today released the track from the game that played over the reel. It’s by Marty O’Donnell and Michael Salvatori, it’s called Awakening, and it’s quite good. Listen here. Kinda gets me excited about the game.

Ahh, Marty O’Donnell – this song alone trumps the whole Halo4 OST. By miles. Sounds a bit deverse though, must be Salvatori’s influence. I kinda like that style.

It’s far too ambient and abstract for my taste. I’m sure it serves whatever visuals it’s supposed to accompany well, but as an independent listening experience? I don’t think it get interesting until the end. But by then you’ve waded through six minutes or so of… noise.

It’s nicely done but boring. Marty knows has to make an amazing theme, but this isn’t trying to be that. This is ambient and abstract as noted above to set scenes to or to give a vibe. I was hoping more for a Halo like theme, which im sure we will get eventually.
