Sky’s Now TV service launches on PS3, no contract required

Friday, 5th July 2013 12:08 GMT By Dave Cook

Sky’s Now TV has launched on PS3 in Europe, bringing Sky Sports and Sky Movies to Sony’s console.

Eurogamer reports that for a £9.99 fee, users can buy a Sky Sports day pass, letting them watch sports on a pay-per-day basis. It’s useful if you want to watch a big football match or other event without being locked into a Sky contract.

Sky Movies will cost you £15 a month for up to 20 new films each month before they hit Netflix and Lovefilm. You can try the service for free by signing up to a 30-day trial, and if you sign-up now you get the service for £8.99 a month instead of the regular charge.

Shows from Sky 1, Sky Atlantic, Sky Arts and Sky Living will be added to the app throughout the remainder of 2013.

Responding to the launch, Sony Computer Entertainment’s UK boss Fergal Gara said, “Adding Sky’s amazing content via Now TV to the PlayStation 3′s services is a real boon for our millions of UK customers. Streaming great and exclusive sports and movie content to the family TV is a huge enhancement to the PlayStation entertainment portfolio.”

What do you make of the above? Will you use the app?

It’s perfect for me as I’m moving away from parents house finally in October. However, £10 is a little steep for one day of viewing so that I can watch a Utd match. Probably cheaper to go to the pub and watch the match.

Oh, so it’s OK that Sony incorporates TV into their shit, but when MS does it, it’s all negative?

You’re a proven hypocrite two times now.

That sounds awesome. Just for one-offs or w/e, mainly, but again it’s a welcome choice to have to add to your current package through a familiar interface, if you do feel like catching a recent movie for instance, without a trek to the cinema. Sky on PS3… :)

Not sure whether it’s just he’s misinterpreted or is making a point about needing a Gold sub on Live to get this. NowTV is available on 360 in the same way as far as payment to Sky is concerned isn’t it? (i.e. you can pay for the day or other stuff) It’s just that it’s behind the Gold sub.

£9.99 for one day of Sky Sports?
That’s pretty bad. If it was £9.99 or £15 a month I could possibly see myself taking that up.

@15 seeing as Sky Sports is £21 pcm on top of a normal Sky TV sub, it was never, ever, going to be anywhere near that cost. They charge Virgin customers £32.75 pcm…jokers.

WoW that is expensive for one day access, you would have thought Sony could have brokered a better deal than that.

Don’t you need PSN+ access to get this? I needed it when I tried to use Lovefilm, so I’m going to presume that this is the same thing.

@18 You don’t need PS+ for any media services.

Hasn’t Now TV been available for a while? I’ve been using it for over a month on PS3 as part of the £1 per month for three months offer.
