PS4′s new DualShock 4 controller have been shown up close and discussed in great detail during the latest episode of Sony’s PlayStation Access show. Watch it here.

Earlier today, Steve Sinclair of Warframe developer Digital Extremes told me he reckons the DualShock 4 is the best controller he’s ever held. Check out why here.

What do you think of the DualShock 4? Let us know below.

  • Sonder is still happening, and this is the best news of the week

  1. alterecho

Wow, the controller is beautiful! This gen it is the 360 controller that is simply gorgeous, but for the next, PS4 is hands down the winner. The number of inputs and the feel seems awesome!

    #1 2 years ago
  2. Rikki

Boomerang, the time has come for the DS3 Boomerang controller!!!

    #2 2 years ago
  3. Hcw87

It’ll never be a winner until you can move the left thumbstick to where the DPAD currently is. PS controllers have allways been a pain to use because of the thumb placements.

Try strafing right while looking left. Your thumbs will bump into eachother.

    #3 2 years ago
  4. CyberMarco

Then by your logic they should move the right thumbstick to where the X/Triangle/O/Square buttons are…

Seriously, am I the only one who doesn’t care about the controllers that much, it’s all a matter of habit.

    #4 2 years ago
  5. spazman

that off set left anologue stick gives the 360 controller a better centre of gravity in the hands. Even with the battery, it still felt neutral. Sony should have stepped up to the plate and took one for the gamer, and copy the 360 in that respect.

    #5 2 years ago
  6. Hcw87

No, the X, O, Triangle and Square buttons are used far more often than the Dpad, so it would take alot more getting used to.

I’ve used both the Xbox and PS controllers since PS1/Original Xbox, and i’ve allways preferred the Xbox controllers simply because of the thumbsticks.

Atleast it seems they’ve fixed the rounded thumbsticks, making them dented instead. An improvement there atleast.

This guy gets the point, and i’m far from the only one having an issue with the thumbsticks.

    #6 2 years ago
  7. CyberMarco

To each his own I guess…

    #7 2 years ago
  8. Gnosis

Never had the “thumb”- problem with the PS controllers. Then again, I’m sure my hands are way smaller than the most of the ppl here. For me Ps2 was the best one, as it was the lightest one. Xbox controller are too clunky and too heavy for me. I’m glad Sony sticks to the design.

    #8 2 years ago
  9. Christopher Jack

@3, Do you use the centre of your thumbs on the sticks? I’m a fairly tall guy with fairly large hands, my thumbs have never met on a dualshock

    #9 2 years ago
  10. Gheritt White

@9: How big is your penis?

    #10 2 years ago
  11. JavelinX

@4 It’s astonishing how people defend that piece of shit the ds3 was. I mean you can say symetric is better, but in reality you never use the Dpad. So the X360 controller is the real symmetric one. If they fix the DS4 and the OS, no problem buying it. Damn it’s 2013!

    #11 2 years ago
  12. Christopher Jack

    @10, Flaccid or erect?

    #12 2 years ago
  13. CyberMarco

All that I’m saying it’s just a matter of cm of distance, people pick on things too often now just for the sake of it…

    #13 2 years ago
  14. JavelinX

@13 I think that you are defending too much Sony. I’m tired of Microsoft, but the controller is so good and that is the only thing that force me into the Xbox brand. I want to go Sony this time, but after the Dreamcast, the Gamecube, the OG Xbox, the Xbox 360, the DS4 just looks dinosaur. It’s time for Sony to change. What’s the damn problem? It’s umconfortable.

    #14 2 years ago
  15. Clupula

@11 – I guess you don’t play JRPG’s or fighting games then, because I use the d-pad all the time.

Which is why it’s good that the Dualshock isn’t designed for deformed mutants with asymmetrical thumbs. I fucking shit on the 360 controller from the highest ladder I can find. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, that thing looks and feels like it was designed by Sloth from Goonies.

    #15 2 years ago
  16. Clupula

Honestly, the Dualshock is the closest a controller has ever come to being perfect. The only thing that would make it better would be if there were 6 buttons on the right side, instead of 4, so that it would make fighting games easier to map onto the controller.

    #16 2 years ago
  17. JavelinX

@16 Honestly you should buy a street fighter pad for ps3 and shut up.

    #17 2 years ago
  18. Hcw87

So i guess it’s settled then, people with small hands and girls prefer the DS, while the real men stick with the Xbox controllers. Glad we’ve cleared that up.

    #18 2 years ago
  19. Clupula

@17 – Why don’t you take the Street Fighter pad and shove it up your rancid crack, you miserable deformed moron?

If Sony ever did start riding the short bus with their controller design and start appealing to mouthbreathers like yourself, I’d stop supporting them.

They understand that not everyone is the missing link on the evolutionary scale and that some of us like symmetry.

    #19 2 years ago
  20. Hcw87

Seems like you have bigger problems mentally than the ”mouthbreather with deformed hands”.

It’s the internet, tough guy. Grow up.

    #20 2 years ago
  21. CyberMarco

Way to miss the point. I didn’t say that the DS is perfect, nor is better/worse than the 360 pad. I have no problem playing with either, so yeah…

    #21 2 years ago
  22. Gnosis

And here we go again… apparently gamer just can’t talk in a normal civilized manner. They only can only insult and abase each other to make themselves feel superior.
    Good we’ve cleared that up.

    #22 2 years ago
  23. JavelinX

@17 Sorry if I’m RUDE, but if Sony changes and you stop buying their product (which nobody believes it in here) they won’t lose a huge customer.

    #23 2 years ago
  24. noamlol2

    horrible design choice

if they were going with the twin analog sticks, then at least

put some fucking DISTANCE to them

    #24 2 years ago
  25. CyberMarco

In the end it’s a matter of personal matter, there isn’t a rule to make the default controller for every one, you like it or you don’t, end of the story.

Personally all controllers are comfortable enough to play with, better luck next next-gen I guess…

    #25 2 years ago
  26. Clupula

@22 – Nah, it has nothing to do with feeling superior. I’m just in a bad mood and stupid people make my bad mood worse.

    #26 2 years ago
  27. Clupula

@23 – I don’t give a flying fuck what you believe. Your opinions are about as valid as Stephen Hawkings, but nowhere near as intelligent.

    #27 2 years ago
  28. Clupula

@20 – Yeah, I’m sorry I can’t be a “real man” like yourself, tough guy.

    #28 2 years ago
  29. JavelinX

@27 I feel sorry for you man, this is a message board for non-serious matters, aka Videogames.
I’m outta of here, too much crap.

    #29 2 years ago
  30. Hcw87

No, i’m guessing it’s that time of the month for you, so you can’t be a man at all actually.

  31. ps3fanboy

to all the xbots here with big hands. the new xbone controller is gonna be even smaller than the x360 controller. i hope you get comfy with your big fingers, LOL!

    #31 2 years ago
  32. merrc

If the dualshock analog placement was such an issue, I doubt MLG would use PS3s for all their COD tournaments as they have been doing.

Firstly, all of you are cunts.

    Secondly, @12: both, duh.

@29 – Good. Go! Begone! And take your Superman shirt with you!

@30 – How very witty you are. Certainly showed me. Not sure how I could even come back after an insult like that. I am wounded, sir. No really, I am. Not being sarcastic, at all. Nope. You are the master of, as the kids say, in the parlance of our times, “the dis.”

Let him have his moment in sun before he heads back to under the bridge :) So the PS4 and Xbox One which controller is best still enrages on?

Stealth Edit: he changed the links.

  43. Ireland Michael

Still think the controller looks like garbage (the shrinking of the overall body size especially) but looks can be deceiving. It’s going to be impossible to judge it until its actually in my hand and I try it for myself.

    #43 2 years ago
  44. ChunkyLover112

    Lol, it’s a joke.

    #44 2 years ago
  45. karma

I concur with the analogue stick offset placements. It does feel more natural on the xbox 360 controller, and its a shame the PS4 controller didn’t copy that design, because by the looks of things, they pretty much nailed every other aspect, including the integrated motion control for novelty games. I’m most excited about the touchpad though, and how it will be able to open up lots of extra functionality in games. One of the things that has held a lot of multiplatform games back this gen is the limited control realestate you have on a console controller. With the touchpad though, I can see it being much less of an issue going forward.

    #45 2 years ago
  46. Hcw87

Never understood the fetish about how consoles/controllers looks.

How they feel and perform is the most important part.

@ 33: Spot on mate, spot on. Always enjoy reading your posts, tbh.

    #47 2 years ago
  48. Cobra951

After spending the PS2 generation with a DS2, and the 360 gen holding its controller, I agree wholeheartedly that the main-joystick placement is much better on the 360 pad, for the majority of games. Sure, games that use the D pad instead of the L stick would suffer, but they are a small minority of the games I care about. This is my only complaint about the PS4′s pad. I can get used to the layout–I have before–but I’d rather not put my left thumb through the extra strain.

@50 – Yeeeeeeeah…that was me being a bit grumpy. Lol. It’s really hot in New York and I hate this weather (makes me miss the UK), so that already had me on edge. Then you had someone who was basically saying that my preference for something should disappear because it’s not their preference telling me to shut up and I kinda lost it. Looking back, those comments of mine make me giggle.

The dualshock is the most uncomfortable controller I have ever used. Period. In fact, I won’t be buying a ps4 until there is either a 3rd party controller with different stick placement or an adapter of some sort. Little mouse men with little mouse You guys….

    #59 2 years ago
  60. Clupula

See, isn’t it funny how every post by people who prefer the 360 controller has to include an insult towards those who don’t?

Yet, when I retaliate and insult back, I am the bad guy.

While the PS controller is made for little girls or boys with small hands.

See, we’ll go back and forth until the end of time.

  67. QuiteHammer91

    did you mean @63?

    #67 2 years ago
  68. Hcw87

You’re missing the point. Anyone who feels the X360 controller is too big (The Original Xbox controller was huge though, i’ll give you that, even though it was comfortable as hell to use anyway), must either have realy small hands or they’re just imagining it to be too big before they’ve even tried using one.

The thumbstick placement is the biggest gripe about the Dualshock, hell it’s the only thing left they have to fix.

    #68 2 years ago
  69. QuiteHammer91

@68 No because i own basically every console and for the record my hands are huge and i have three 360 controllers one of which being a third party pile of sh*t but it’s still more comfortable than the Real 360 controller, The Playstations controller has always been better from day one, Simple, Comfortable & the best Console controller on the market at the moment is the Dualshock 3.

    #69 2 years ago
  70. Hcw87

Yet you fail to say what’s wrong with the 360 controller. Stick placement? Too heavy for your feeble hands? Buttons not working? Give me something atleast.

The only downside about the Dualshock 4 is the thumbstick placements. There you go.
