Fez Xbox live patch inbound at last

Friday, 5th July 2013 01:18 GMT By Brenna Hillier

Polytron Corporation will patch Fez on Xbox Live Arcade, possibly thanks to Microsoft’s decision to reduce fees associated with title updates.

Polytron founder Phil Fish announced the news on Twitter.

“Good news everyone: we’re going to patch Fez on XBLA,” he said.

“It’s going to take a few months, though. But we’re doing it,” he added.

Fez released on Xbox Live Arcade in April 2012, and was patched in June, Unfortunately, the update was found to cause save file corruption and Polytron rolled it back.

After some delay, the developer announced it would re-issue the update with no changes, because it would cost “tens of thousands of dollars” to re-certify the game thanks to Microsoft’s policies on patching.

The platform holder recently confirmed it has axed at least some of the fees and charges traditionally associated with updating Xbox games, which may explain Polytron’s decision.

Fez had sold over 200,000 copies on Xbox Live Arcade last time sales figures were discussed, and a sequel is on the way. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Fez 2 won’t release on the Xbox One.

Thanks, CVG.
