Nintendo pulls plug on select Wii online channels, services as planned

Saturday, 29th June 2013 17:01 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

As planned for June 28, Nintendo has shut down various Wii online services such as: the Nintendo Channel, News Channel, Forecast Channel, Everybody Votes Channel, Mii Contest Channel, and Data exchange with Wii Friends. Hopefully, those who used these services have found replacements or moved on to something else.

Man I totally loved using my Wii for the forecast… What a tragedy…

They’re pulling the plug on all that less than a year after the Wii U came out? What does that say about future Nintendo support for the Wii U?

I hope the next generation of consoles will think further than just 10 years in terms of future proofing the architecture.

Especially with digital storming ahead, it’s just not acceptable to say “Hey sorry you spent money on us, fuck you and goodnight!” every time you release a new box.

I don’t think they are now or ever were widely used services, which would explain why they would stop supporting them. They haven’t shut down WiiConnect24 so it’s not like everything is gone.

    Nothing really…

These channels were not used by most people.
