Just Dance 2014 new modes detailed

Ubisoft has outlined some of the new features coming to Just dance 2014 - World Dance Floor, Karaoke and Onstage modes, as well as improvements to Sweat and Party Master.

Karaoke mode uses the Wii U's game pad to allow players to sing as they dance, game director Matthew Tomkinson told the Ubiblog.

"The microphone will track you automatically and you’ll get scored for that," he said.

"Not only will you be able to sing to all the songs, but for a selection of songs we have what we’re calling the Onstage Mode. The Onstage Mode is about being able to step on stage and sing and dance at the same time. It’s like you’re Nicki Minaj and you’re doing a full performance. You are scored not only for your dancing but also for your singing.”

For those who are into it for the fitness, Sweat has been upgraded so players can make their own playlists, and more songs will have Sweat modes.

“We also have a calorie counter that’s even better than before. You can activate it in any game mode you want and track your efforts throughout your whole Just Dance experience," Tomkinson added.

"For every song we calculate the average number of calories burned. Some of them are very high. If you want to burn calories you can burn a lot just by dancing to one song.”

Puppet Master Mode is now the Wii U-exclusive Party Master Mode. Similarly to the old version, it allows a fifth player to select the moves and music for the other four players.

Finally, there's the kind of rad-sounding World Dance Floor.

"We will have everyone in the world playing Just Dance 2014 dancing to the same song at the same time. It’s like a huge flash mob. You vote for a song, everyone dances to it, you have worldwide leaderboards and you can see videos of all the players," Tomkinson said.

“We also have huge events like Girls vs. Boys. It’s all the boys of the world against all the girls of the world and we see who wins. It’s our own Team Deathmatch, but for a dance game. Every time you dance you have banners that appear so you can see the flags of the countries that are winning. When you meet someone on the dance floor you can see his or her flag. It will be just like traveling and meeting other Just Dance players from all over the world.”

S**t just got real. Just Dance 2014 is headed to PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii, Wii U, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. the current gen versions hit in October with next-gen releases to be confirmed.
