Watch Dogs multiplayer: hacking, griefing, unique events

Tuesday, 25th June 2013 14:33 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

Watch Dogs senior producer Dominic Guay spoke with VG247 during E3 2013 regarding the game’s multiplayer offering, which was shown behind-closed-doors to select press members at the event. Hear what he had to say about it below.

“What we wanted to do was create something unique anecdotes, things that were not created by a designer,” Guay told VG247. “We want it to diverge, so we decided to let the player play the game how they want to play it.

“The biggest ‘wow’ moment in Watch Dogs, single-player or multiplayer, should be one you created yourself – not something a designer at the office created. With multiplayer, we don;t control what other players do. You will be playing, and another players just comes along and something unique is created.

“Obviously we balanced it out so it doesn’t spoil what you are trying to do. We are being very careful with that. But in an opne-world, there are many times where you are just going from Point A to Point B – a lot cam happen when you are doing that.”

Watch Dogs hits PC, PS3, Wii U and Xbox 360 on November 19 in the States, and November 22 across Europe. It will also be made available on PS4 and Xbox One.

    @1 If I had a time travel device I would use it to bet on certain horse races, and buy a majority stock in Google, Apple, and Viagra. Then, I would travel to the point where the stock prices were the highest, sell sell sell, and come back to 2013 to my mansion in Hawaii, my Bugatti and have a wink at my pool boy! :D :D

    You can come with me if you like. :)

    I don’t know what to think of this, I’m not sold on it quite yet, as it’s too grey and real world for me. It seems to have a touch of the grimdark about it, too. From appearances thus far, it seems to be nothing more than, essentially, Remember Me for boring people.

    To segue: Speaking of Remember Me, I feel somewhat vindicated that Scott Sharkey managed to actually grok the game and enjoyed it because he did. He’s one of gaming’s more genuinely creative and intelligent figures, and he catches some shit for that. It’s a shame, really, because if he were to pull cult of popularity bull, he’d probably be more popular. Yet I’m glad he doesn’t.

    (And don’t try and tell me Sharkey isn’t intelligent because of his bad habits, because that would be like trying to convince me that Warren Ellis, Grant Morrison, and Alan Moore aren’t the most intelligent figures in the comics book field. I wouldn’t buy it.)

    So… yay, Sharkey liked it.

    Segue over.

    This though… I’m in a weird position because I like the concept. I want to like the game, but it’s… it’s… So. Damn. Grey. Doesn’t that tweak anyone else? I feel that many games today are like watching old TV shows on a greyscale telly.

    I think I have a greyscale telly up in my attic somewhere. There’s a reason it’s in the attic and not being used to play games on.

    @4: I’ll get my stuff packed for the trip, but I make no promises that I will not break something and force us on a long and crazy adventure all over time and space!

    @5 Ive read your first par + your 3 words you wanted me to read the most.

    It looks great, and your “Remember Me for boring people” is totally out of your ass. So damn grey isn’t a problem 100% of the time, most of the time.

    Whats wrong with people just fucking shooting each other in the face? Why not also have a ‘normal’ MP in there? This is ‘innovation’ just for the hell of it, it sounds like something that’ll quickly become boring, i bet most people just mess around with it a few times then ignore it. open world MP worked well in GTA4, it was ruined because of some dumb game mechanics (lock-on) but this doesnt have to do that. I just want to get into a car, run a player over then gun down another guy on his team. Cut this BS and let us shoot each other in your shooters.

    Remember Me? C’mon, Remember Me is mediocre as hell.

    Remember Me is awesome and it should feel awesome. Especially as it’s coming when we’ve been in sore need of genuinely strong female protagonists, while having to witness every single formerly strong female protagonist from past generations torn to shreds and reduced to pathetic caricatures of what they used to be.

    @4: Viagra? Oh, I get. =P

    @10: Remember Me sucks and the characterisation of the female lead is pure misogyny.

    @11 Misogyny? What the hell.

    @10 Salarta, youre so intense you dont make sense most of the time.

    On topic, its different, we`ll see how good it turns out, but it looks not bad at all.
