Tom Clancy’s The Division: “we’re not ruling out other platforms”, says Ubisoft

Tuesday, 25th June 2013 10:16 GMT By Dave Cook

Tom Clancy’s The Division’s plot has been discussed by Ubisoft, and the team has also stressed that while the game is coming to PS4 and Xbox One it is not ruling out other platforms. It’s reading the internet, they say.

Speaking with IGN, the team at Ubisoft re-capped that the game is set three weeks after Black Friday, following the signing of Directive 51 by George Bush. By this point a virus has been spread across New York City via tainted dollar bills, and players are part of the Division task force sent in to mop up the mess.

There are factions, seamless PvP, a companion app and the ability to traverse the city at your leisure to seek out missions and other distractions.

Since the game was announced at E3, gamers have petitioned Ubisoft to bring The Division to PC.

Interestingly, when asked about the game’s release platforms, The Division’s Ryan Barnard said, “It’s set for release winter 2014 on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but we’re not ruling out other platforms because we do also read the internet.”

When asked if this meant PC, he replied, “Ubisoft as a company considers … maximising the potential for a game, so if the audience is there and the desire is there,”

Would you like to see the game brought to PC? Let us know below.

I think this will eventually come to PC – but knowing Ubi it will be a bugfest with nightmare DRM.

I’m fairly sure it’s coming to PC. Think about it: What’s the last game Ubisoft made that wasn’t released on PC? Besides Zombie-U? I can’t remember.

There’s no reason why they wouldn’t bring this to PC. Since it’s coming to both consoles, there’s no exclusivity deal with either that would prevent a PC version from being made.

No one need to make petitions or anything. This thing is coming for PC period.

bring it to pc with all the bells and whistles please, this game engine has serious potential, not just for itself, gameplay is yet to be determined, script wise though, the premise at least, titillates, but for the likes of GTA6 and others whom wish to immerse us at our discenible discretion. lovely, very lovely first steps into the next gen.

@7 oh, i don’t think you can do it with an petition. i think you need a peecee kickstarter to get this off the ground, LOL!

Like Povu said it’s coming to PC, it’s not even a serious question, it’s a given.

Ubis statements saying “PC gamers will have to show their interest” is the same as them saying. “We’d like PC gamers to start a fucking riot and do all our PR for us.” It’s coming to PC, it’s gonna be a better port, it’s not even worth discussing.

Winter 2014?! Somehow I always read Winter 2013.
Why are people even talking about this? Time to move on and meet again in a year.

Uplay = no purchase. At times it hurts to oppose stupid DRM.

Sigh, #3 continues to act like an awkward tsundere of a virgin around a girl he likes. And that girl is the PC.

And it’s up to Ubisoft whether they release for the PC or not. What we tend to get on the PC is more acclimatised to my tastes, anyway. This is probably just more Hollywood-esque nonsense, grey-brown and you have to turn your brain off to even begin to enjoy it (tainted dollar bills, really). It certainly looks the part, at least.

Maybe the reason they’re wondering about the PC as a platform is because we seem a little more precociously perspicacious than other consumers?

On the one hand, it’s Ubisoft, fuck Ubisoft, on the other…well, this would work so well on pc…Hrm, whelp, yeah, Uplay is the deal breaker, bring it to PC and I’ll buy it, chain it to Uplay and I will merrily continue my “fuck Ubisoft” policies.

Its more business smart and profitable to format this game and any other game next gen or not on already existing console, for people that have no intention on buying the xbox 1 or ps4 because of bugs like any new gadget not wanting to go thru that trial and error phase. But besides all that creating it for those console’s (xbox1 and ps4) as well as 360 and ps3 pc it is readily available for those who are more able to spend $60 ON A NEW GAME rather then $4oo + or whatever the cost is for up coming consoles. my self being a Tom Clancy fan and a gamer collecting Clancy games is something i intend to continue to do. BUT buying a xbox 1 or ps4 just for 1 game is not.

What is the internet coming to? Everyone arguing and teasing about how a game isn’t on the pc? Seriously, grow up. Let’s get back to the point here. It would be great if it were to come to the pc, I would pay money for it. But, if it did not come out on the pc…. that’s Ubisoft’s damn mistake. They would lose millions in revenue by not making a port that wouldn’t be too difficult for them to create. Ubisoft is a smart, and well-developing company. But let’s see if they truly have the smarts to win or lose out on huge amounts of profit. People have to remember that there are more pc gamers than console gamers multiplied by two. So, is it really worth losing millions by refusing to put it on the pc? I wouldn’t say so, let’s go Ubisoft.
