Nintendo Downloads Europe: Game & Wario & Balloon Fight lead the week

Nintendo has published its weekly eShop updates for Europe. Among the new offerings this week are Game & Wario, the Game Gear edition of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and NES classic Balloon Fight.

Wii U:

First up is the retail release of Game & Wario at €39.99 / £34.99. It’s a mad mash-up of mini-games that falls short of WarioWare Inc’s brilliance, but it might be worth a punt if you’re a fan. You can check out my game-by-game opinion blog on the release here.

Also, a full retail release of F1 Race Stars: Powered Up Edition drops from Codemasters at €49.99 / £39.99, followed by two Virtual Console releases.

First up is NES classic Balloon Fight at €4.99 / £3.49, followed by SNES casino game Vegas Stakes at €7.99 / £5.49.

Over on 3DS, there’s a full retail release of Mon Haras 3D – Au gallop vers l’aventure at €39.99. It’s a French horse adventure game, basically.

The 3DS eShop has many digital releases this week, starting with Mighty Switch Force! 2 at€5.00 / £5.00, followed by Dillon’s Rolling Western: The Last Ranger at €6.99 / £6.29 (goes up to €9.99 / £8.99 on July 4), Aqua Moto Racing 3D at €9.99 / £8.99, Urban Trial Freestyle at €5.99 / £4.99 (goes up to €6.99 / £6.29 on July 4), and finally, 3D MahJongg at €9.99 / £9.79.

Sega is bringing the Game Gear edition of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 to 3DS Virtual Console. It’s totally different from the Mega Drive original and its as hard as nails. Seriously. It’ll cost you €4.99 / £4.49. Fellow Game Gear classic Crystal Warriors will cost you €3.99 / £3.59.

Finally, there’s a new Project X Zone demo from Namco Bandai.

See anything you like?

Thanks Nintendo Life.

Game Gear Sonic 2 is the best Sonic 2? Well, I think so at least :D That game is so good.

@1 Sonic 2 was so difficult back in the day, thanks to that annoying crab boss at the end of the first stage.

Master System Sonic 1 was not exactly a walk in the park either compared to its 16 bit counterpart from what i remember.
I never did play Sonic 2 on the 8bit systems because i had a Mega Drive by the time it came out.

Maybe the devs were bitter because they had to work on the 8bit systems so they made the games hard as hell.

@2 Provided in full, for the benefit of anybody who rarely hears it complete (!) The crab boss. yes, I remember that one!

My fave zone was the Scrambled Egg zone with the pipe mazes, where you could choose your path at intersections.
It was just brilliant seeing the little character shooting through miles of identical transparent piping and you’d stand an impressive chance of becoming completely lost, but it was absorbing and it really kept you focused on what was going on.

I think it’s unfortunate that some of the more novel zone concepts of that Sonic 2 haven’t been revisited since.
