Naughty Dog "ripped off" Ellen Page's likeness, actor says

Ellen Page isn't impressed by the character of Ellie in The Last of Us, who is said to look a heck of a lot like the Canadian actor.

Asked about the similarities in a Reddit AMA, Page seemed a little put out.

"I guess I should be flattered that they ripped off my likeness, but I am actually acting in a video game called Beyond Two Souls, so it was not appreciated," she said.

On Twitter, Naughty Dog creative director Neil Druckmann said Ellie was "perfectly played" by voice actor Ashley Johnson.

"No one could've done a better job," he said.

As many commentators have noted, the version of Ellie shown when The Last of Us was revealed bore marked similarities to Page, which were later significantly toned down. Page's appearance in Beyond: Two Souls was revealed at around the same time as the character overhaul became common knowledge, but Naughty Dog maintained it was a coincidence, and that the change was motivated by story concerns.

Post reworking, some players have said they still see the resemblance while others haven't noticed it at all.

The Last of Us is available now, and Beyond: Two Souls is expected in October, both exclusively for PlayStation 3.

Thanks, Johnny.
