Sunset Overdrive’s Xbox One exclusivity due to “quick production cycles”

Monday, 17th June 2013 02:27 GMT By Ewan Miller

Insomniac Games’ CEO and Founder, Ted Price revealed that the studio’s upcoming shooter, Sunset Overdrive, is being developed exclusively for the Xbox One due to the “quicker production cycles” the console offers.

He also said another contributing factor would be the “ongoing two-way dialogue with our community” the console would allow. However, Price doesn’t want you to think Insomniac’s future is only with Microsoft.

“Others may ask why we have “abandoned” our PlayStation heritage. The truth is, not a lot has changed. Insomniac has been, is, and will continue to be 100% independent. We have treasured that independence for the last 19 years. It now allows us to own and control our IP, and find the most suitable partners to make those IP a reality. While we are excited about partnering with Microsoft on Sunset Overdrive, that doesn’t mean we can’t or wouldn’t make games with our longtime friends at Sony. That’s the magic of being an independent developer.”

Price went on to mention that Marcus Smith and Drew Murray, veteran designers of Resistance 3 will be Sunset Overdrive’s Creative Directors.

The game doesn’t have a release date quite yet.

Thanks, NeoGAF.

gimme a break – I don’t believe there’s any reason except for money that it is exclusive. Until I hear ted price he wasn’t paid to make it exclusive, I won’t believe any other reason. I’ve loved insomniac, but the last few games haven’t seemed to great… they went downhill when they started having two teams… but this game does look good.

i think if they stayed with playstaion theyre games would do better. if sony promoted fuse as the developers of resistance it would of done better, i believe the same goes for metal gear rising, but sure you go multiple platform and to a console were your fanbase is much much less.

the game’s per-renedered vid looked like shit honestly.. insomniac needs to re-learn how to make games. Apparently the only thing they are good at is designing cool weapons.. but weapons are just a factor in the over-all experience..anyway much remains to be seen in this game, hoping it turns out better than the E3 vid.

Did they show gameplay? Because all I saw was a pre-rendered trailer.

@5 yup.. that was a pre-rendered “vid” :).. they said it’s something like a shooter with procedural levels, so am thinking the focus will be on just going around town….and killing bad guys all the while gaining XP which helps unlock abilities/objects/weapons.. so it will be more like PVE rather than PVP. And there will be some sort on minor focus on acrobatics too.
    but that’s just speculation.

This shows that people partnering with Microsoft are a bunch of liars and consider gamers to be kids. We all know about the capabilities of both console and the PS4 is far more superior and much more internet streamlined than the Xbox. Just that the PS4 gives us an option to turn it off.

To Insomniac: You guys are for money which is OK. But don’t buls**t gamers. GTFO.

Meaningless management-speak drivel from Price, but I liked the look of the teaser video. Sort of a cross between Pain and Mirror’s Edge.

“another contributing factor would be the “ongoing two-way dialogue with our community” the console would allow.”

What? Say something that means something, or send someone out who knows how to communicate with real people.

after resistance 3 I think Sony may tolded them to clean their house and rebuild the teams .. so they went after ea with fues and now MS who knows where next .. they kinda lost it and I really didnt care about them anymore

What’s this strange squeaking sound? Oh, somebody is selling out.
It may be a coincidence, but while they were making Playstation games those came out good, then they made their first muliplatform, brown co-op shit #367, whatever the actual name was, and now they ‘re making… Riiight.

Oh yes develop R&C games that don’t contain what fans want like Tower Defence.
