E3 poll results: VG247 readers pick this year’s show winners

Monday, 17th June 2013 08:28 GMT By Dave Cook

E3 2013 is behind us but the appetite for next-gen and new games remains. Last week we ran a series of Facebook polls to gauge your reaction and to get a handle on what wowed you the most at the show.

We ran a handful of polls mostly geared towards the press conference and on the next-gen console war, and as you might have guessed Sony fared favourably. Here’s a breakdown of the poll results in full:

Question One: Who ‘won’ the battle of the E3 conferences this year?

  • Microsoft – 30 votes
  • EA – 7 votes
  • Ubisoft – 22 votes
  • Sony – 446 votes
  • Nintendo – 7 votes
  • Picking E3 winners is for losers – 8 votes

(520 people voted in total)

A whopping 85.7% of you voted Sony as winner of the pre-E3 conferences, and it’s understandable seeing as Sony said almost everything gamers wanted to hear, along with a strong suite of games. You can watch the conference again and get full analysis here.

Question two: Will you buy an Xbox One at launch?

  • Yes – 57 votes
  • No – 544 votes
  • I’ll wait for a price drop – 57 votes

(658 people voted in total)

Many gamers didn’t take kindly to Microsoft’s anti-used game options within Xbox One. They’re at a publisher’s discretion but a lot of people fear that big players like EA and Ubisoft will jump on the chance come November. Regardless many of you voted against Xbox One despite a fairly strong showing of IP during Microsoft’s conference.

Question three: which next-gen console will you buy at launch?

  • PS4 – 667 voted
  • Xbox One – 97 voted
  • Neither – 169 voted

(923 voted in total)

The next-gen battle has begun and Sony looks like it’ll be leading the pack for some time. November is still a while away and a lot can change by then. However, I wrote an analysis piece on the differences between both PS4 and Xbox One, as well as the $100 price gap. You can check it out here.

Question four: What is your most anticipated game of E3 2013? (taken before the show)

  • DayZ – 3251 votes (bloody hell!)
  • Battlefield 4 – 448 votes
  • Watch Dogs – 365 votes
  • Fallout 4 – 190 votes
  • The Elder Scrolls Online – 178 votes
  • Half-Life 3 – 158 votes
  • Arma 3 – 130 votes
  • Metal Gear Solid 5 – 118 votes
  • Mirror’s Edge 2 – 98 votes
  • Call of Duty: Ghosts – 98 votes
  • Saint’s Row 4 – 68 votes
  • The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – 58 votes
  • Star Wars: Battlefront – 41 votes
  • Dark Souls 2 – 41 votes
  • Destiny – 38 votes
  • Dragon Age 3: Inquisition – 37 votes
  • FIFA 14 – 35 votes
  • Thief 4 – 30 votes
  • Killzone: Shadow Fall – 24 votes
  • Uncharted 4 – 23 votes
  • Total War: Rome 2 – 22 votes
  • Halo 5 – 21 votes
  • Borderlands 3 – 19 votes
  • Infamous: Second Son – 19 votes
  • Payday 2 – 17 votes
  • Forza 5 – 15 votes
  • Super Smash Bros – 14 votes
  • Batman: Arkham Origins – 14 votes

Well this is a bit of a weird one isn’t it? Despite Uncharted 4, Fallout 4, Half-Life 3 and Borderlands 3 not being unveiled at E3, many of you really wanted to see them announced at the show. How about now? Do you still want them to be confirmed soon?

That’s all folks. What did you think of E3 2013? Let us know below.

Sony are a clear winner then. Who’d a thought hey?
When asked if Day-Z would ever come out for consoles Dean Hall said this:
“If we can self publish and not get charged for updates, then that’s the console we’ll release this for”

    Any guesses anyone???

I’ve never even heard of Day-Z. Am I a bad person?

  5. Erthazus

Yes you Are! Because it is the most revolutionary game in years with Zombies and survival

  6. Erthazus

I wonder how DayZ will work in consoles and in what resolution/frame rate with that ArmA engine.

I sniff some sort of campaign for Day-Z – but if it bumps a smaller dev above the big boys for a bit of exposure then fair play to ‘em.

Not surprising to see the results in favor of Sony and PS4. It’s quite funny to realize that the persons (fanboys?) who defend Xbox One so hard are the “vocal minority amongst the vocal minority”. Gameception.

But I’m quite surprised for DayZ. Didn’t think so many people were that much interested in the game. Not a bad thing, but still surprising to see it largely beat ALL other games (don’t even think there was any kind of highlight for DayZ at E3, in opposition to all the trailers, gameplay we’ve seen for others)

sony is the winner as expected. playstation is the best, it is a indisputable fact.

What if you don’t like shooters? Is PlayStation still the best?

    #14 2 years ago
  15. ps3fanboy

@14 sony have the worlds best developers on their team that don’t make shooters. so yes, playstation will still be the best for people that don’t fancy shooters.

Quite a variety in titles if you actually look.

@17 They wouldn’t be stupid enough to get into the business. They’re doing pretty well flogging TV’s and Androids

  21. Clupula

@14 – Hopefully, this will not turn into our regular Punch & Judy Show, but I very much hate first person shooters and am very picky on third person shooters, and I am looking very forward to Kingdom Hearts 3 and Final Fantasy XV on the PS4. Not to mention Compile Hearts announced they’ve begun work on a PS4 JRPG. I assume it won’t be long before the usual NIS suspects start showing up and, like the PS3, it becomes the home console with the most JRPG’s and fighting games, the two genres I do love the most.

Oh, and, since it wouldn’t be me without a little dig…didn’t you say MGSV was going to be announced for Wii U at E3?

    #21 2 years ago
  22. Clupula

Although I will admit seeing Battlefield 4 as the most anticipated game does make me die a little inside.

    Also …

Incidentally, nice to see the indies being given the same prominence as the AAA stuff there too.

It appears MS have really helped boost Sony at this years E3. I don’t think many people would’ve voted for Sony based on their show alone if it wasn’t for the whole used games/always online debacle. Arguably X1 showed the best exclusives, Sony was mainly multiplat but it’s interesting to see the effect another company can have on yours none the less.

I think these online numbers will become invalid by this time next year, I can’t see the X1 flopping reallly, anyone would be daft ro write it off. I think it may work similar to this past gen, MS a tad slower to start (although I think faster than PS3s initial sales from what I’ve heard), with PS4 leading the way, then a year or two down the line the momentum will shift.

Anyways, I just want to play one of these new consoles already!

Am I literally the ONLY PERSON who’s looking forward to InFamous: Second Son more than any other game that actually showed gameplay?

And where was the opportunity to vote for The Order: 1886? That game looked well weapon!

  27. DrDamn

“What is your most anticipated game of E3 2013? (taken before the show)”

This was a pre-show list, so no The Order:1886 as it wasn’t known about.

  28. Clupula

@27 – Out of the announced exclusives, Infamous: Second Son is the game I’m looking most forward to. But out of all games shown, MGSV and Final Fantasy XV are at the top.

  29. monkees19

I was most excited for the new Smash Bros. games. Playstation does NOT have the best developers, be it in house or otherwise. I’m not saying they are bad, and they have some of the best, but it’s been very very obvious that Nintendo has always had the best.

    #29 2 years ago
  30. xxJPRACERxx

@27 inFamous: Second Son is my most anticipated next-gen game.

    DayZ? O.o

    #32 2 years ago
  33. Dave Cook

Yeah folks, I think the DayZ thing was the result of a fan community all rallying behind it, but still, it’s not like it’s an official poll that will actually decide anything. We thought it was just interesting :)

@30, Hardly, it’s been a while since Nintendo made great games but they continue to make fun and popular games.

    @ 35: What can I say? I’m a self-facilitating media node.

    #38 2 years ago
  39. Clupula

@38 – In fairness, Nintendo have been making the same five games over and over again for over 20 years. If you do anything with that much repetition you’d probably be good at it. They’ve had enough practice. It’s probably why they’re so afraid to step outside their safe little closet and try to make some games for adults. They are great with the family friendly crowd, but they have no experience making anything for someone over the age of 11.

They’d probably be just as bad at it as Visceral trying to make a Mario clone or Cliffy B. trying to read a book.

What all the Sony love really amounts to is “congratulations for NOT pissing yourself on stage, like the other guy did.”
