Super Mario 3D World’s camera feature explained in video

Koichi Hayashida, the producer of Super Mario 3D World, is featured in the video below talking about the game’s camera feature – a feature explained by Nintendo president and CEO Satoru Iwata, during the firm’s E3 Nintendo Direct presentation. Game’s out on Wii U this December.

    Um, Nintendo?.. You do know that there are a second stick for moving a camera on your controller, right? You didn’t forget about this silly thing after Wii, didn’t you?..

    @1: My Thoughts too. Thats the god damn point of the Right Stick, to move the Camera. Moving the Controller around is NOT a better way to move the Camera, by far not.

    I really love your Games Nintendo, but your getting silly.

    Here’s the thing: This game was originally designed for 3DS which doesn’t normally support second stick.

    The game is a sequel to 3DS one (3D Land instead of the console one, Galaxy 2), the scope of levels are handheld like and finally, most of the assets are similar to the 3DS game, only with better textures and models (Which in case of game design, is normal.

    The assets are always created with higher specs and then get downgraded for console or handheld and whatnot). Even the Nintendo loving Edge magazine talked about this during their preview of the game (Which according to them, is pretty obvious that this was meant to be on 3DS with lower graphics).

    #4, Now I get why I had that 3DS strange sensation… which make believe that Nintendo was so desperated trying to bring a 3D Mario onto WiiU so they have something to offer that they moved the project…

    Its a shame. The game would have been an awesome hit for 3DS. Bring Galaxy 3 and shut up everyone mouth… But not this.

    No, not even Galaxy 3. A new one is what I want, not a Sequel, no matter to which Mario Game. A Brand new 3D Mario with Brand new Ideas and stuff.

    Nintendo is playing way to Safe now.

    Yeah. I was having an odd feeling and then I read this (

    Pretty much all of us were expecting Galaxy 3 at the very least but were hoping for the next generation of Mario 3D. Mario Universe or something. Galaxy 3 would have been the safe bet. What they did is just… bad. And it wasn’t just Mario 3D. They did it with Donkey Kong too.

    The only Nintendo made sequel that I liked seeing is A Link Between Worlds.

    Well, what they are doing with Donkey Kong is in my Opinion the Right thing – The Problem only is the new DKC comes too early. DKCR isn’t that old and just got a Remake, and now Part2 is already coming. Thats too fast, repeating stuff that is good is no problem when you not repeating it too fast, and they are doing that right now.

    I always thought Nintendo is the Master of bringing old and new stuff together in a new Game, but they are loosing this ability right now. Too much old stuff with not enough new stuff, the Mix is rotten.

    Was a pretty poor E3 for Nintendo, all in all.

    Where was:

    F Zero U
    Endless Ocean U
    Star Fox
    Fatal Frame U
    Trauma Center Sequel
    Proffesor Layton or Phoenix Wright Crossover on Wii U
    We could have had a Mother U game
    Golden Sun U
    Metroid U
    New IP’s!!!


    They played it far too safe, and even that wasn’t really what people wanted, this Mario game is a good example.

    All the stuff they have currently showed us should have been ready and out the first year of launch, there still pimping games that should have been out long ago.

    Mind you, X still kicked the shit outta most next gen stuff…

    My god, X looked so awesome. X and Bayonetta 2 really shined. The latter is the reason of my eventual Wii U purchase (Don’t like most Nintendo games but Bayo 2 is a must). I also like Sonic Galaxy.

    Wii U is a great console, I just wish Nintendo had a bit more eclectic stuff ready for it.

    It’s safe to assume PS4 / Xbone have the third party stuff sown up, Nintendo need to reposition themselves really.

    It feels like there still trying to rekindle the casual spark the Wii had, but that boats long since sailed.

    Far too much of their own stuff not until 2014. Good article on EG today about the difficult second screen they really don’t seem to know what to do with it. This video just reinforces that. Camera control? Really?

    Yeah, too true! Good article btw, thanks for the link! :)

    I could think of a ton of good uses for the pad in games like Fatal Frame, Endless Ocean etc…

    Even in this Mario, they could have made it 2 player co-op, where one person was below ground in 2d (on the pad) and the other person was above ground using the wiimote and nunchuck.

    The players could effect each others worlds to solve problems and puzzles. That would be great fun, why don’t they try something like that?!

    I really loved what I saw from Sonic Lost World but it really REALLY feels like Galaxy. Plus it is a bit unlikely that Sonic team could recreate that sort of masterful level design. Still, it looked great and seemed to be a decent Sonic game.

    I’m still not a fan of Wii U (Though truly respect it for staying the most consumer friendly console). Yeah, the E3 stuff kinda felt casual oriented in spots. Instead of Mario Party and other simple stuff, they should have had a huge showing for X. The thing looks insane.

    Wow, good point. WTF happened to 2nd screen? The way PS4 and X1 games use second screen (Oh look, I can call air strike in Dead Rising 3 via my tablet) is really stupid and pointless where as some of the uses for Wii U’s second screen seem fun (Nintendo Land and Wonderful 101).
