Supergiant Games’s Transistor will have its console debut on PlayStation 4, Sony announced at its E3 conference. To celebrate, it showed us an incredible new trailer; the indie developer is definitely not suffering from second novel syndrome.

Transistor is due in 2014 which suddenly seems far, far away. Its gimmick in the titular sword, which allows protagonist Red a limited ability to pause time and plan actions, as in a turn-based strategy; the rest of the game is real time.

Errh, some kinda Bastion set in the future starring a redheaded chick wielding a gigantic sword taken right out of Final Fantasy?

Huh. Yup. Not surprising for them to do that to get the exclusivity fee. Still, I can’t see it being very long before it ends up on the PC due to how Bastion sold far better on the PC than any other platform.

What’s occurring to me now is that indies are getting the exclusivity deal and using that time to brush up and polish off a proper PC version. The delay might have happened anyway, but they’re also now profiting from the time differential.

If it actually helps with their ongoing financial success, then I wish them the best.
