Ubisoft E3 presser: The Crew, The Division hitting next-gen

Monday, 10 June 2013 22:09 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

Ubisoft kicked off its E3 press conference this evening by announcing Rocksmith 2014 Edition. But there was more: Tom Clancy’s The Division, The Crew, South Park, Rabbids coming to TV and more, Hit up the break for a full report.

Watch the conference again below.

Games you knew about already

Splinter Cell: Blacklist was discussed and shown, with Ubisoft calling it the “biggest” game in the series. The trailer, which is posted below, showed mainly gadgets and tracking. Splinter Cell: Blacklist is out on PC, PS3, Wii U and Xbox 360 in August; the franchise will continue on next-generation consoles when the hardware lands on shelves.

Rayman Legends was also shown at the conference, and the new video was rather nice as you will see below. It will contain a variety of environments, boss encounters, traps and musical maps. The game comes with 120 levels and will be released on September 3 on PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii U. The PS Vita version will be releasing on August 29 in US and August 30 in the UK.

Two Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag videos where shown. Lovely as usual, showing loads of pirate fights on land and sea, and a bunch of unruly scalawags running around with our hero assassin.

The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot has gone into closed beta. The free-to-play game tasks players with building castles, filling it with loot, and tasking creatures to protect it. Your friends can loot your castle, and may need to use different characters in order to get the job done. Sign up for the beta here.

South Park: The Stick of Truth is out during the holiday season – not necessarily this one though per Cartman. A new video of the game was shown at the conference, along with a special move called the “Nagasaki”. It’s a massive fart basically. Expect a lot of potty humor in the game when it finally releases.

Watch Dogs was shown. It was the leaked trailer from yesterday. NOt much else was said on the game that hasn’t already been said. Watch Dogs is coming to PC, PS3, PS4, Wii U, Xbox 360 and Xbox One November 22.

Next-gen: The Crew, Watch Dogs

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot took the stage to talk about about next-gen, specifically to announce The Crew -which has been rumored for ages – from Ubisoft Reflection Studios.

The Crew will be “the biggest game ever created” and features the “whole US”, and players will take over criminal organizations one city at a time – how you like, when you like – and it’s “very open”. The entire game is an online persistent world, with city-realistic maps, and can be played in co-op, multiplayer, and single-player – in all missions and races.

The game is a spiritual successor to Test Drive Unlimited 1 from the developers of that game, and the demo showed races in multiple environments and terrain – and you can go anywhere depending on the vehicle you are driving and it contains “thousands” of 20-second trials around the map to reward players for exploration.

Friends can jump into your game – no lobby needed. If you are having trouble with a mission, just ask and your friend can come in and help. The Crew will also have a companion app for car customization. More on that will be announced soon.

Just Dance 2014 will be out in October on “all platforms” according to MC Aisha Taylor, so all motion-control consoles. It was leaked yesterday. It is also coming to PS4 and Xbox One.

Rabbids Invasion was announced as an interactive TV show. It’s about to “launch very soon.” More interactive TV basically. Players, or those watching the game, will be able to use the game via Xbox One. You can play puzzles like “spot the chicken” – and kids can aim their finger at the Rabbid and toss eggs at them.

It is coming to Nickelodeon.

Alice in Chains’s Jerry Cantrell stepped on stage and started jamming to “Man in the Box.” He was introducing Rocksmith 2014 Edition, and he used voice commands for “Session Mode” in which the in-game band will react to the player. Specifics weren’t gone into on it, but there were demonstrations of using voice commands. This means it will contains some Kinect support. It’s out this October, for PS3, Xbox 360 and will be released on next-gen consoles as well.

Tom Clancy’s The Division from Ubisoft Massive was announced, and it’s the long-rumored Tom Clancy MMO – but it’s a next-gen, online, open-world RPG. Not an MMO as previously rumored.

It looks fantastic. It can also be played on tablets because one person was playing it on one. The game takes place after a pathogen is spread through cash on Black Friday in the US.

Within five days, society has collapsed and the Division has been called in to restore order and save humanity. The demo shown took place in Brooklyn, with the Division doing its best to reach a police station. Hit up the video below.

It’s in the works for Xbox One and PS4.

Trials Fusion was confirmed for PS4 and Xbox One from RedLynx. There is also a mobile title Trials Frontier in the works which will work in tangent with the console version. More on both games will be announced at a later date.

As usual, all the news happenings from the conference has been posted separately on the site. Trailers, screens and more information will be added when it hits our inbox.

The Crew, is it the answer to our demands of a new NFS underground? I hope so…

    #25 2 years ago
  26. salarta

Haha, wow. Guillemot’s answer to the question of why he’s pushing so much for the latest round of consoles is such a thinly veiled way of covering up the real reason of “They have DRM restrictions for us to use at the expense of consumer wants and needs!”

Which, of course, if the PS4 does things like the XBox One, I won’t be getting that console either.

    #26 2 years ago

The Crew looks cool. Competition for NFS right there. All about online next gen, fo shizzle.

    AC4 should be a new pirate franchise…

They could have called it: ‘The Black Spot’…

You play a pirate marked for death with the ‘black spot’, you have to find out who wants you dead… Just use the same engine and sailing and stuff, just not the shitty AC character or worn out timeline…

    #52 2 years ago

@52 Why not show gameplay instead of CG, that’s the point and a lot of games have been great today, mirrors edge and bf4

That looked superb , great end to the show

That’s what I want to see.

    #57 2 years ago
  58. CyberMarco

The Division looked really rad, but I’ll wait till release. Ubisoft already mislead me with Far Cry 3, not this time around though…

    #58 2 years ago
  59. monkeygourmet

That was very cool, that’s how I imagine a ‘next gen’ game to look! :)

    #59 2 years ago
  60. OlderGamer

No idea, but CGI doesn’t bother me at this point. Most of these games are not coming out right away. If they were launching next week I would be more concerned. And there was gameplay.

And yeah The Division looks next gen. One of the first games I can say does that. For console only that is. BF4 looked nice, but that was PC footage. The Division was clearly PS4.

    #60 2 years ago
  61. TheLastDodo

Compared to last year, this has been pathetic from Ubisoft.

    - Splinter Cell trailer was pointless
    - CGI trailer for Watch_Dogs, why?
    - Brief trailer of South Park that showed nothing about the game, why?
    - CGI trailer for Rayman with like ten seconds of gameplay tagged on, why?
    - The Crew looked ok and it had gameplay (Fast And Furious The Game?)
    - Just Dance 2014
    - CGI trailer for Assassins Creed, bit of gameplay
    - New Trials flip yeah! Trials Fusion is coming to PlayStation, Trials on PlayStation finally woop (and Xbox/PC)
    - The Division looked ok,very similar to Watch_Dogs but in a world that’s gone to shit.

One thing to note, no BG&E2, that was cruel to tease fans like they did yesterday.

Definitely a step down from last year in my opinion, not sure if Trials and The Division saved it.

    #61 2 years ago
  62. MadFingerz

Great visuals but let’s face it, it’s Ubi, there’s high chances the game won’t look nearly as good when it releases..

    #62 2 years ago
  63. Ireland Michael

That definitely looks impressive. And those graphics… *drools*

Hey, kudos to Ubisoft, they can’t be faulted for keeping the new IPs flowing, and all this stuff has the company’s usual visual flair. Definitely agreed that they went way too heavy on the CGI though. I’ll take gameplay over cutscenes any day of the week.

    #63 2 years ago
  64. Exicuren

@56 Yes, Sony has a smartglass tech, but even wider because it has conectivity with android tablets, don’t know if it can be with smartphones

    #64 2 years ago
  65. daytripper

Was hoping Ubi would of had something for the Wii U guys in terms of new ip but not to be. The Division saved their presser from being awful imo
