I liked two games of those announced. KI’s an either-way. I was a little disappointed that we only saw two of the fighters in Jago, and Saberwulf – leaving me to wonder how far along that actually is.

If I can scrap together the money, yes. it is an incredible piece of hardware and i want it. the bad thing is that for someone like me, one income, two kids, it is a luxury i can’t afford without some serious sacrifice. i did think that it would be $400 at most. Im disappointed in the price, but I can’t begrudge Microsoft, honestly. It really is a very impressive piece of hardware, does a lot of stuff, and I’ll get it eventually. no games of much interest, mostly generic shooters and multiplatforms… then priced at $499 and on top of that the xbgold. plus always on, drm, blocking used games and kinect spycam…. sorry to say it but this will not end well for microsoft. sony and its ps4 will destroy tonite easily.

  33. Gekidami

Nah. Even if it was cheaper i wouldnt be interested. The games just arent there, going through what they showed off just now the only things that really grabbed me are multiplats or third party that will most likely come out on PS4 later once the MS money counter runs out (and if they dont, whatever, i can live without DR and an online-only FPS). Their first party lineup was pretty weak and knowing that MS have a very small number of first party studios, once all of this stuff is released in the first year, we’ll most likely have to wait another whole year for more first party exclusives to hit. Thats exactly how it went down on 360; decent exclusives once every two years, i dont see why that would change.

    #33 2 years ago
  34. Erthazus

Only CoD addicts, fanboys and moms will pay something like that for the outdated machine with few games.

It’s not worth so far. Dead Rising 3 is good with Killer instinct and the rest is multiplatform and shitty indie games wht multiplat PC MMO’s being ported for Xbox 360 and Xbox one.

Nothing great really. Although Titan Fall in my opinion was great you can check that game on the PC next Spring without spending…. 500$ because it is on the Source engine.

How is it outdated when the consoles are between 8-12 times more powerfull than their current gen? It’s no point comparing it to current PC specs, as console gamers couldn’t care less about PC gaming.

Expecting GTX 780/i5 equivalent stuff on consoles is just retarded, imagine the price you’d have to pay for it. People are allready whining about paying 500.

some of you people are unrealistic. seriously.

this is an incredible piece of machinery. it does all the things gamers and society have been calling for for a decade(s). MS invested a LOT of money into this. It IS expensive but it is a toy. Don’t buy it if you don’t want to, but being personally butt-hurt because they want to charge $500 for one of the most incredible machines ever built is silly. I expected $400. This IS steep for me and my family. But I don’t see MS as ‘gouging’. It is an expensive toy but put it into perspective. One day at Disneywold for a family of four is $350…just to get through the door. One day! I play at least 2 hours of games a week, plus my family watches Netflix and YouTube through the Xbox 360 for another 5+ hours a day. I paid $250 for my 360…if I did the math I bet that is less than pennies on the dollar. In the long run it is worth the money to me…IF i can afford it. But seriously people, to say ‘fuck no!!’ like this is some ridiculous personal insult to you is immature and stupid.

And #18 is upset that you have to have a Gold membership to play online? So you don’t want to pay MS for their server usage, upkeep, etc, and you want the One to be, what, $100? Is it really too much for MS to charge $6 a month for you to use multiplayer for 50+ hours a month?

Its a lot of money. Don’t buy it then. I don’t want to fee the trolls, but be realistic. Clearly many of you have zero idea what goes into creating something like this. MS deserves to make their money back, no? So does Sony. Both of these systems will be killer. I was over the moon about the games and the entertainment stuff as i watched this presentation and thought ‘damn…’ when they said the price. But if you want something you have to pay for it.

The prices in america are WITHOUT taxes. The prices in europe are WITH taxes and import costs and whatever more taxes are being layed on those things here. Yes, it’s more expensive here, but it only is about 30 euro’s/25 pounds more expensive.

As to the question asked: No. I will not pay this. Unless Microsoft goes back on it’s “”always online”" feature and “used games” policy and always kinect, there is no way the X-1 will see the light of day in this house hold.

A few weeks ago I posted half a dozen comments highly favourable to MS, and one reasonably favourable to Sony. All were my honest opinion. All in the space of a few minutes, while you were also posting. You only jumped on one with the usual fanboy/troll-accusing finger. Can you guess which?

  61. Phoenixblight

Still possible has MS has been throwing money around everywhere 3 billion for AMD(what for?), almost a billion for a NFL deal over 4 years, 1 billion for retainer to persuade developers. They have to make that up somehow and why not pass that to the base they think they have.

    #61 2 years ago

where the hell have have people like mightyhokie come from? They just seem to have appeared overnight. Paid shills?

    #62 2 years ago
  63. DeVitowned

That’s the first impression I got. Ever since the reveal last month, Microsoft shills have been out in full force trying to justify the direction the company is going. Many of which have been identified and booted off NeoGAF.

$499.99 is a bit too high, especially when you consider the cost of XBL on top. Throw in the requirement of monthly broadband to even play the games, the reality of a strict DRM, and lack of truly killer apps, the value doesn’t justify the tag.

Not a chance at that price for a non-us gamer. if Sony comes out with 399 or hell even just 450, they’ve got my business.

Otherwise they can both shove it, and I’ll stick with what I have, until it becomes an acceptable price.

    #74 2 years ago
  75. NeutralBlade

As of now, I won’t be buying one. There are a few factors that could possibly convince me in 3 years; maybe. First is a price drop, a non-bundled Kinect package, (meaning the mandatory requirement is removed), and if they cancel most of their restrictions.

Seeing as Microsoft hopes consumers will just accept their strong-arm DRM, (rather than rollback their nonsense), there is a good chance I won’t be buying one at all. Unless something changes between now and Sony’s E3 info, for me it’s PC, PS4, and the Wii U.

  76. ysleiro

Pardon me for being a fanatic of gaming. I’m excited for what we’ve learned today (with or without DRM etc).

Label me a fucking shill all you guys want.

I would pay $600 for the new consoles.

If you are interested in knowing WHY MS priced it at $500 flat. It’s probably to put the ball in Sony’s court. Then MS lowers their price depending on what Sony does.

    #76 2 years ago
  77. CyberMarco

I don’t think MS would lower their price in a flick of their fingers. It’s due to the mandatory Kinect that the price is so high. It could be 400$ easily without it.

    #77 2 years ago
  78. mistermogul

Nice show from MS but price is irrelevant to me, I will not be buying.

Anybody who does is directly allowing our consumer and privacy rights to be trampled on…

    #78 2 years ago
  79. ysleiro

@78 MS would do just that. At a flick of their fingers.

The console doesn’t cost them $400 to make and even if it did, MS is in position to take a loss on every console if they have to.

    #79 2 years ago
  80. Phoenixblight

They put 3 billion with AMD, half a billion for NFL deal, 1 Billion to buy out developers for exclusives. They have put more money into the damn thing then they did with the 360. They won’t lower the price.

    #80 2 years ago
  81. Eddie Rodrigues

@77 For the features it will use, they are most likely to not lower the price.

    #81 2 years ago
  82. ysleiro

@81 Where did you get all these magic numbers???? Pfftt.

Those details have not be revealed. I can’t stand people that talk about assumptions as if they were facts.

@82 I bet they’ll lower it if Sony offers a price that’s too low for MS comfort.

  83. TheBlackHole

This is for a lot of you here…

Remind me how much your ipad cost you… and remind me how powerful the hardware is in that machine.

Cost is relative to what you get. £429 is £70 cheaper than the PS3 was at launch, and in line with the 360.

On top of the console, we’re getting the Kinect (like it or not) sensor, which is easily £129 (around what the original retailed for), making the cost of the actual console more like £299, which when you think about it is not at all unreasonable.

I’m not saying it’s not expensive, it clearly is, but value is not bad for what you’re getting.

    IMVHO, of course :)

    @84, Good post, very true.

I was going to cap out at £400 so it’s a little over what I wanted. If I can get some sort of deal with a game and maybe a Gold sub for about £450/460 then I’d be sold.

I also have £50 in GAME credit so I would probably go there for it. My local GAME has always sorted me out so I’m happy to go there for it.

I’ll probably wait for 12 months until the REAL next gen games start arriving (not the ones which are also released on current gen – if they can do current gen they’re not going to be that different).

I imagine by then they’ll be a bit cheaper.

Having said all that, I’ve been on a bit of a roman history binge recently (listen to the history of Rome podcast – awesome) so Ryse really hit the mark for me.

  89. laughing-gravy

@84 Hate to bust your bubble but PS3 was not £499. It was £425 four pounds cheaper than Xbox one. Then people said that was expensive.

The QTE combat doesn’t bother you TBH? If it was real time free roaming combat, I would be more interested. To me QTEs mean the focus is all story and you are more or less lead by the hand. I just don’t get into that.

I will buy it. great games and nice hardware.

its launch price. all consoles take off only after price drop. it will do okay.

    #91 2 years ago
  92. Keivz

To be fair, the pound was >> stronger than the dollar was back when the PS3 launched in the UK. The 60 gig PS3 was $599 when it launched in the U.S. while £425 was equivalent to ~$827 back then (~$662 now)!

$499 is more than fair for what is included and was just what I expected. I’ll buy it if I finish my backlog by then (doubt it). I couldn’t care less about always online–in the (very, very) rare instance that my internet goes down there is plenty else to do.

    #92 2 years ago
  93. laughing-gravy

@93 Haven’t seen you on here before, not another shill are you? £429 is nowhere near fair for what they showed in fact it’s a rip off. I was actually addressing someone else.

    #93 2 years ago
  94. harr0w

@62 that’s a good point phoenix but also bear in mind the PS4 using DDR5 unified architecture in there APU which in terms of PC hardware is big custom stuff. Then theres PS eye that wont be bundled, maybe your right we will soon find out but i will be surprised if it does. As for MS splashing the cash nothing new there they have unlimited cash

    #94 2 years ago
  95. harr0w

are some of you guys still missing the fact that kinect can be turned off from watching/listening/spying whatever the fuck it does. the only issue i can see from a personal stand point is the lending/second-hand/DRM it really does need to be cleared up for well just about everyone really?!?!

    #95 2 years ago
  96. Phoenixblight

“DDR5 unified architecture in there APU which in terms of PC hardware is big custom stuff.”

So? And MS is using Esram which is just as expensive currently. They also didn’t throw 3 BILLION dollars at AMD.

    #96 2 years ago
  97. CyberMarco

“the only issue i can see from a personal stand point is the lending/second-hand/DRM it really does need to be cleared up for well just about everyone really?!?!”

And the forced bundled Kinect that increases the cost doesn’t count?

    #97 2 years ago
  98. laughing-gravy

@95 The GDDR5 isn’t in the APU it’s a separate unit on the board connected via a 256 bit bus. It’s so there will be no problems with overheating.
