Nosgoth in active development, not ‘traditional’ Legacy of Kain game

Friday, 7th June 2013 11:24 GMT By Dave Cook

Square-Enix has confirmed to VG247 that Crystal Dynamics is not developing ‘Nosgoth’, but that the new project is linked to the Legacy of Kain franchise.

In a statement sent to VG247 this morning, Square-Enix community manager George Kelion confirmed that a studio is actively developing the title. He told us, “Nosgoth exists and is in active development, but is not a traditional Legacy of Kain action-adventure game”, and added: “Nosgoth is set in the same universe as previous LoK games, but on a different branch to the Blood Omen and Soul Reaver series. The community should not be thinking of Nosgoth in terms of a single-player experience.”

Kelion explained that the reason for talking to us about the project was to clear the air following Nosgoth leaks that came from AMD and Steam.

The game will not be announced at E3, but Kelion added that Square is very excited about the concept.

“We don’t want people to get the wrong idea about Nosgoth following the AMD and Steam leaks ahead of its future official announcement,” he said. “Nosgoth is not being developed by Crystal Dynamics. Crystal Dynamics are not working on a Legacy of Kain game.

“This isn’t something we’d normally do, but we wanted to just give folks a bit more context for the direction, rather than just batten down the hatches.”

There you have it folks. What do you want to see from Nosgoth? Let us know below.

Not to be “that guy,” but which is it? I assume there is just a simple typo here, but is it in the first sentence or the second one?

‘War for Nosgoth’ has a grand scaled RTS\TBS kind of sound to it. It would be very disappointing if it’s not a storydriven, well written game with lots of memorable dialogues and interesting characters.

    And please.. no MOBA.

    So it’s either:

    A. A free2play MOBA game.
    B. A social, facebook game.
    C. An iOS title a la Deus Ex The Fall.

Sadly, none of the above choices are worth a damn.

Well there goes any excitement I had for this project, what a shame.

@14 – I doubt he’ll comment. There aren’t any female protagonists in the Legacy of Kain series (well, at least none that I’ve ever seen anybody cosplay as), so I doubt it ever popped up on his radar.

My money is on a smartphone game.

So what other classic Eidos franchises do they have left they can ruin? I’m guessing Fear Effect is next.

I have no problem with the Kain series taking a new approach, just so long as the quality and depth of lore is there. Who knows, if this is successful if would certainly increase the chance of a full blown game, right?

That said, the original story was already finished. I for one am happy to see the series rest in its original form. Not everything has to have sequels.

It’s going to be a farming sim, where you run a factory that blots out the sun. Along the way, you’ll have to devour human villagers and make enough profit within the budget deadlines for your bosses to be happy. And if you do really good, you get to manage a second and third factory.

Damn, I was really hoping for an amazing single-player experience.
