MGS5 voice actor reveal teased, David Hayter seems in on the joke

Friday, 31st May 2013 01:45 GMT By Brenna Hillier

Konami has promised to reveal who will voice Snake in Metal Gear Solid 5, and if you like jumping to conclusions, you may be interested in a cryptic response from David Hayter on the subject.

The publisher urged its Twitter followers to tune into Gamespot for the pre-E3 show at 10:00AM PST on June 6.

“The moment you’ve been waiting for! Who’ll be the new voice of Snake?” it asked.

Fine and dandy, and indeed we’d like to know, as long-time star and fan-favourite David Hayter seems to be off the cards – wait. What’s this?

Well. Wouldn’t that just take the Hideo-cake.

Metal Gear Solid 5 is divided into two parts – The Phantom Pain and Ground Zeroes. Nobody actually knows whether these are two games or one, with mixed messages coming out of Konami reps – we’ll probably know more after E3. Here’s everything we do know about it – or think we do.

Thanks, OPM.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Hideo planned on having Hayter all along. He seems to love trolling the fans with misleading trailers and info.

Wow, people completely missed the whole point of Hayter’s joke.

He lost his voice… as Solid Snake.

He’s not Snake anymore. Accept it and move on.

Hey Brenna, luv, I hate to be THAT guy but Hideo has already official come out and said that Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain are two games. YouTube link with the man himself explaining…

@12 He’s also said they’re the same game. He’s changed his mind multiple times. Konami’s official stance is no comment.

Don’t call me “luv”. It’s patronising.

Come back here June 6 when you’re wrong and admit it.

    @14 I won’t need to.

A company isn’t going to introduce a new voice actor in a reveal, publicly state that they’re using a new actor, have the original voice actor openly admit that he wasn’t even notified of the change… and then turn around a few weeks later and go “HAHAHAHA! Fooled ya!”

There’s a big difference between some harmless and humorous misdirection, and outright lies and deceit.

Fans are desperately hoping for something that isn’t going to happen.

I’d agree with that if it wasn’t Hideo Kojima. The man is a notorious troll. (ie The phantom Pain by Moby Dick Studio, the MGS4 reveal which before announcing the game, was advertised as a FPS) Like I said Hayter is still the voice actor. I I turn out to be wrong…Then I’ll come back and admit it.

Some people seriously need to stop being so precious. Most people when they use “love” or “luv” do not intend it pejoratively or patronisingly. It’s no different from “mate”, which is normally neutral but occasionally meant in a different way (i.e. when spoken with a strong emphasis on the ‘m’) – and without evidence it is the latter you should consider it the former.

There is a woman at work who calls me “luv” every day. I don’t get precious about it.

    It depends on the tone.

If you’re attempting to correct someone and call them love then that does come across as very patronising.

I don’t mind the new voice actor but i honestly think this is a hideo kojima infamous troll event, but this has been denied so much i’m starting to think its unfortunately true which is a shame i got used to hearing David Hayter iconic grunt/catch phrases but i’m sure that will still remain.

I hear Steve Downes may be the new voice of Snake…

@22 Indeed. It’ll probably still be tedious melodrama even without Hayter’s one-note dialogue though.

@23 Sounds like a fanboy rumour if ever there was one.

I imagine they’re probably planning to go with someone fairly famous… a well established Hollywood actor in television or film.

@24 What bothers me is the fact that the people who actually never cared about the series are annoyingly vocal about it.

@22 Metal Gear Solid series was always a ‘Tactical Espionage Action’ game. So being a lame-ass halogenic light beacon that moves around like a turtle was never the point of the series. Sneaking is a huge deal in MGS games as is the action.

@25 – They really do have to share their unwanted opinions, don’t they?

As for #22, ignore him. He’s just a huge troll. If it isn’t Halo, he doesn’t have a good thing to say about it.
